The Curious Case Of Mesut Ozil – Why Ozil Needs To Drastically Prove His Worth Soon Else Risk His Place In The Team

Mesut Ozil, Linked to Inter Milan, Ozil should leave Arsenal

Arsenal’s ace Mesut Ozil has been facing criticism regarding his performances in recent games. As a result, the club’s highest earner has been heavily linked with a surprise move away from the Emirates.

The former Real Madrid player’s campaign ended with a disappointing performance in the FIFA World Cup 2018 with Germany, which indeed led to a retirement from international football. However, at the moment, everything is going south for the play-maker. A terrible start to the new season has just worsened the situation for Mesut Ozil.

Unai Emery requires his midfielders to be energetic and hardworking while pressing when the opposition has the ball. However, these are not qualities Ozil possesses, which indicate why he is not suitable for this style of play. Just four matches into the new season, reports are already doing their rounds suggesting a feud between Arsenal’s Spanish boss and Ozil. These reports are based around the assumption that the German international does not fit in his pressing system game style.

On the other hand, when the manager was questioned regarding the disputes with his midfielder, he rubbished any such reports. Although an article from Fotomac, a Turkish media agency, suggests otherwise. It states that Fenerbahce are willing to spend on Arsenal’s superstar in the January transfer window.

However, this transfer happening seems very difficult because of two things; firstly, Fenerbahce’s humongous debts. Their new president, Ali Koc, “has made it his duty to sort out the spiraling debts, currently standing at a staggering €621m”. Mesut Ozil still has 3 years remaining on his current contract, which means that the Turkish club will have to spend a lot in order to land the talented midfielder.

Secondly, the Turkish club have a policy of nurturing young players in order to make profit later whereas Ozil, who is 29 years old, does not fit in the club’s plan.

In a somewhat more believable rumor, Manchester United are interested in the midfielder and are currently observing the player, who is valued at around £40m by the North London club.

Mesut Ozil may have signed a new contract at the end of last season and now earns £350,000 per week which expires in 2021, but if he continues to put in such poor performances, he might not even be included in the starting line-up. He hasn’t managed to get either a goal or an assist in his last three games.

As per my perspective, Mesut Ozil deserves a few more games to show why he is the highest paid player in the team and we all know he has the talent and the skills to prove every critic wrong. Every player has a bad phase and it’s just a matter of time before we see the in-form Mesut Ozil back.
