Ceballos to end his two year exile but his immediate future remains unclear

Dani Ceballos, Arsenal

Real Madrid own him, Arsenal currently loan him, however, Dani Ceballos will probably end up at neither club come the summer. If Mikel Arteta hasn’t seen enough over this season to discount an offer, then his judgement is questionable.

Ceballos delivers the goods in terms of his talent on a ratio that appears to be one in ten. For someone so gifted, he tends to offer zero influence in some games and is guilty of a negative mindset or a diabolical first touch. When he’s on his game, he looks a decent player but he’s become something of a low-level luxury that can’t command a starting slot even on loan.

His performances are underwhelming and there’s nothing to suggest that either he or the North London club will extend the deal beyond the summer. Arsenal need a general, someone with presence and determination and Ceballos flits in and out of games, isn’t assertive enough, and tends to give off a vibe that equates to disinterest.

Moreover, reports from El Confidencial (via Metro) suggest that the Spaniard has decided to leave North London in the summer. He seems to be ‘increasingly clear’ of not staying in England next season and playing in his home country.

If you are going to spend £20m plus, you would want a bit more bang for your bucks than someone that can kick with both feet whilst sporting designer stubble and a trendy haircut. He looks the part, but he clearly can’t handle the pace and intensity of the Premier League and has been found out in his second spell with the club.

I’m confident his day is done but with Odegaard’s future also unclear, Mikel Arteta will possibly need to buy one player and promote another from within its ranks. There are a host of young and talented midfielders chomping at the bit for that position such as Catalin Cirjan, Omari Hutchinson, Miguel Azeez, and Ben Cottrell but that could all depend on how Arteta views their progress in the summer.

To be honest, the Arsenal manager may have to cut his cloth accordingly due to the circumstances and shortage of funds, but on the bright side, he could save himself €10.5m for the services of Ceballos who seems 98% certain to say adios to N5.
