REVEALED | Why David De Gea Has So Far Refused To Sign A Contract With Red Devils

De Gea, David De Gea

With the rise of Manchester United from the ruins, ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in December, many players signed new long term deals to commit their future to the club. But what has yet surprised us all is why goalkeeper David de Gea has not signed a new contract yet? Let us dig deeper to know more.

David de Gea has been United’s stopper since 2011 when Sir Alex showed his faith. And ever since then, he hasn’t looked back going on to become one of the world’s best, if not the best.

He has showcased his talents on countless occasions for United, saving numerous matches almost single-handedly with relative ease. Also the obvious, he’s a fan favorite, winning their faith over and over again. Thus, keeping him at the club is definitely a high priority for the Red Devils.

Negotiations begun almost a year back and there has been no fruitful result to it. Now, in an exclusive from the Evening Standard, it is being reported that the 28-year-old could be priced out of a new deal at Old Trafford. The club is ready to offer a £350,000-a-week deal widely considered to be the terms he was seeking, clearly showing the willingness to hold onto their superstar.

United recently triggered a 12-month extension option on the keeper’s contract to buy them more time to come to an agreement. But, if they are unable to sign a new deal by the end of the season, he will end up on a free transfer at the end of his current contract in 2020.

Also, De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes recognizes the strength of his bargaining position – particularly with European giants Juventus and PSG monitoring De Gea’s situation.

With Aaron Ramsey rumored to be earning at the whereabouts of £400,000-a-week in his pre-contract deal with Juventus, De Gea seems to be pushing for a deal in that region. Although in a recent statement, he did say that he has no desire to leave the club anytime soon after establishing himself here, the Spaniard might do so if his terms are not met.

Thus, there is a lot of optimism in the club that David De Gea will soon sign a new deal to keep him here at Old Trafford, with the recent resurgence of United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer raising hopes. He is keen to stay here but a deal suitable to his liking is yet to appear it seems. Hopefully, things end up well for both sides and everybody remains happy.
