It is rumored that David De Gea, the Spain and Manchester United stopper, has agreed to extend his contract with the club for another year, according to Catalan outlet Sport on Tuesday. This should come as great news for Manager Jose Mourinho and the fans with Mourinho having already expressed his doubts regarding De Gea signing an extension or not.

Technically, this is possible as there is a clause in the current contract that allows De Gea to extend his stay here at United. However, unlike other clauses, De Gea and his agent Jorge Mendes also have to agree for this clause to be triggered.
De Gea has been outstanding this season, coming up with some crucial stops and hence becoming one of the few bright spots in this underwhelming season for United so far. He has gone on to become one of the best keepers in the world ever since he joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for a fee of 25 million pounds. Also, he’s a favorite among the fans.
“I am not confident,” the United boss said in his Friday press conference. “But I’m not also how do you say the opposite of confident, I am not worried I am not more than worried. I cannot find the word in English, but let’s see what happens. Only the club, David and his people can answer that.
“My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United and, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David.”
Even De Gea was surprised to hear this and he said he is focused on ‘winning games’ for United and that the discussion regarding his future is a ‘distraction’.
“What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction,”
he told Sky Sports.
“We have an important game against Everton and we have some big fixtures over the coming months. I think that’s what matters, rather than thinking about anything else.”
Amid reports he could be set to leave for Juventus on a free transfer once his contract expires, De Gea said he is very much happy at Old Trafford.
“I’ve been here for many seasons, as we’ve said,” he added. “I’ve been at the club for eight seasons now. I’m very happy here. I always feel that warmth from the fans and everyone who works at the club.”
If this rumor is true, it’ll be a big news for the manager, the fans and the club itself who have showered a lot of love for De Gea over the years.
