Bundesliga Giants Keen On £10.6m Rated Arsenal Defender Who Could Leave A Big Void At The Back With His Departure

Laurent Koscielny, Koscielny

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keen on importing Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny, reports Daily Star.

The Gunners made one of their best long-term signings in recent times in Koscielny. The Frenchman has been undoubtedly one of the most consistent players at the club since the day he arrived, whilst also being the best centre-back in the league during his prime. Per Merstesacker and him formed one of the most formidable centre-back partnerships during their time.

Furthermore, it’s no secret that the skipper has rejected multiple big money offers from big clubs with a brighter project and still chose to stay. For many, he’s one of the few Arsenal legends of the Emirates era.

However, despite having a decent season, the veteran defender made just 17 Premier League appearances last season — his lowest since signing for the club. Though it is mostly due to his late recovery from a massive injury, it is also due to the fact that the years are catching up with him. The 33-year-old is declining fast from his prime days and could be argued that Rob Holding is a better option at this point in time.

Nevertheless, due to his consistency, reputation and a decade worth of experience at the highest level, the centre-back has no short of suitors. Dortmund seem to be among the ones who are most interested, but the Londoners are said to be holding out for a decent sum in return.

As per the report, the Emirates outfit want a minimum of £10.6 million. Relatively not a big number in the market, but definitely a bit off-putting for an aging player. It is not just that Arsenal value him at such a price range, but also due to a need of outgoing funds.

Unai Emery hasn’t been handed one of the best transfer budget possible and to compensate squeezing out a maximum sum from outgoing transfers is a big priority. Missing out on Champions League qualification has cost Emery’s plans for the fire direly and now he must make up for it in smart signings.

William Saliba is said to be a big favourite of the North Londoners to replace Koscielny and one of Ryan Fraser and Yannick Carrasco may also be signed. But as we already know, everything hangs on funds raised from player departures.
