Edu Gasper uses Copa America as a shopping expedition to find cut price replacements for Emery.
He’s been coming for what feels like an eternity but Edu Gaspar, former Arsenal Invincible, is already doubling up his roles as Brazil’s general coordinator and Arsenal director of football whilst at the Copa America.
He is rumoured to be casting his eye over the cream of South American talent with a view to secure some cut price talent at prices Arsenal can actually afford.
The Gunners have been linked to a host of players completely beyond their budget, but there may be some significance between Edu’s involvement in the Copa America and Arsenal’s apparent lack of transfer activity.
One player said to be on Edu’s radar is River Plate’s Exequiel Palacios and as a midfielder, Edu is well placed to make a judgement on this exceptional prospect. He is also said to be spying on Nahitan Nández and Emanuel Reynoso, but don’t rule out a Brazilian flavour to Arsenal as they head in to samba territory with Edu’s arrival.
Gabriel Martinelli is said to be on his way for £6m from Ituano, but Brazil is crammed with emerging young talent including Emerson, Thuler, Liziero, Lincoln, Rodrygo, Paquetá, Lucas and Pedrinho and potentially a few could could end up in Edu’s version of supermarket sweep.
All are highly rated, but are just out of the spotlight at this moment in time awaiting a high profile move.
According to rumours, Edu Gasper has already established a solid relationship with Head of international recruitment Francis Cagigao and both were involved in the transfer of Martinelli.

Just to add a little more flavour to the speculation, Cagigao is currently said to be overseas, hardly uncommon for someone in his role, but apparently no one has ruled out the likelihood of him taking in the Copa America…ah ha.
I’m putting two and two together here, but it doesn’t take a lot to link the pair and nor does it take a genius to think that Arsenal may be slightly more active in the transfer window once the arrival of Edu Gasper is official and his participation in the Copa America is concluded.
