Arsenal Set Asking Price For Their French Star; is a January Move on The Cards Now ?

Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal, Ekrem Konur, Olympique Lyon

Arsenal are willing to offload Alexandre Lacazette before the transfer window shuts on August 31st, according to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur.

Lacazette has 66 goals and 28 assists to his name in 172 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions. These stats suggest one goal involvement per 1.8 matches when he has put on the iconic red and white jersey. His numbers were similarly impressive at his boyhood club Lyon, where he racked up one goal involvement in every 1.6 games.

Several clubs have shown interest in Lacazette since he made the switch to the Emirates Stadium in 2017. That is not surprising considering he finished as the team’s Player of the Season in the 2018/19 campaign and Arsenal’s top scorer in the more recent 2020/21 season.

However, the 30-year-old striker is on the wrong side of the age profile that the Gunners are looking to build on. Also, the former Lyon man has only a year left on his current deal and the North London outfit are reluctant to offer a contract extension to the player.

Thus, the Gunners are hoping to cash in on him in the current shop window rather than losing him for free next summer. According to Ekrem Konur, Arsenal have slapped a price tag of €15m on Alexandre Lacazette. Having a player of his calibre in the squad is certainly an advantage and, surprisingly, Arsenal haven’t received a single offer for the 16-times capped French international.

The Frenchman has been linked with Barcelona multiple times over the years and reports stated a move could be possible this summer. However, there has been no contact between the clubs. Spanish champions Atletico Madrid were also rumoured to be interested in the player’s services, but the move seems unlikely given the Rojiblancos have already signed Matheus Cunha.

Lacazette is not the only centre-forward who can depart the North side of London before the transfer window concludes, Eddie Nketiah is on a similar boat. The Englishman, like Lacazette, has a year left on his current deal and pushed back the club’s approach to tie him down to a longer contract.

That certainly means that Nketiah’s journey at Arsenal will end sooner rather than later. If both do end up departing, Mikel Arteta will only have one senior striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to choose from. That is hardly an ideal way to head into the rest of the season, especially when Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun have failed to impress in the first two matches in the Premier League.

Both are for the future and Arsenal should recruit someone as soon as possible for the present. Both Martinelli and Balogun have potential, but they are still young and every player needs time to develop and hone their skills to put the ball in the back of the net.
