These Are The Two Hottest Ligue 1 Prospects That Emery Is Seriously Considering Splurging Upon In The Summer

Arsenal vs Brentford, florient thauvin and lyon midfielder targeted by emery

Unai Emery is apparently casting an eye over talent in the French leagues and as a result speculation is gathering pace that Arsenal are already looking at their options through their scouting network.

It’s said that among the targets under consideration are the former Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin.

The main stumbling block to acquiring the Marseilles man is the ability to deliver champions league football, so until that is decided, Thauvin will keep his options open for where he heads next.

His record in England is unfortunately less than impressive. He arrived at Newcastle for a fee of £15m in 2015 but just couldn’t justify the fee or discover any sort of form, however, he has reinvented himself at Marseille.

His stock is on the rise and his reputation restored, having scored 26 times in the 2017/18 season and having helped his side reach the Europa league final but he can be outspoken and be a bit of a handful at times

He could be a loose cannon in the great scheme of things as Arsenal rebuild and his attitude won’t endear him to Emery.
Prone to the odd hissy fit and rant, Thauvin is on record as saying :

“It’s the same story every season. I’m fed up. For a top-three finish, it’s over. And even if we get into Champions League, what’s the point? We’re rubbish,”

Not the sort of thing the gunners boss will like to read or hear as he looks to bring in new faces.

Emery is known to admire the player but knowing the Spaniards team ethic, Thauvin would be a risk, if not a round peg in a square hole.

AC Milan are also said to be interested in the player and the fact that a club of that stature is keeping an eye on his situation might suit his ego.

While we are on the subject, Arsenal are apparently still keeping a close eye on Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret.

The gunners were tracking the French youngster last year but never made a firm offer.

The players contract ends in 2020 and a move to the Emirates may seem attractive because of the progress of Matteo Guendouzi’s under Unai Emery.

Caqueret is considered to be the best prospect in France and it’s thought that it’s only a matter of time before he announces himself on a global stage.

His estimated cost would be around £8m but that’s likely to climb through a ratchet system of appearances and performance payments but whatever the cost, it would a cheap outlay for a player of his class and intelligence.

It’s not a guaranteed transfer story but it does have some credibility, with Emery keen to recruit within a tight budget.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
