Arsenal head coach insists that Arsenal can still do ‘something special’ in the January transfer window despite just 11 days to go and with only being permitted to loan signings this window.
Unai Emery had previously said in front of the media that “Arsenal wont be doing any transfer this winter but would rather look for loan signings”.
And this particular scenario at the club has brought in a lot of speculation regarding the future of Arsenal’s man in charge of player recruitment and scouting Sven Mislintat. Despite only just being a year old in charge of his new responsibilities, Mislintat already seems destined for the exit with rumours abound about Bayern Munich chasing his signature.
However Emery revealed that it has been business as usual for the two of them, having held multiple routine meetings regarding player recruitment as planned with Mislintat.
“No, no.Today, for me, the normality is working for him,” he said when asked if there was any possibility of Mislintat leaving.
“I was working with him the last two weeks. We had two or three meetings together and we are working normally. I don’t know another different issue to him.
“When I spoke with him it was all normal. My relationship with him for transfers in the last two or three weeks, we are speaking about that.”
As there are no funds left in the Arsenal’s coffer’s, Unai Emery will most likely be keeping himself preoccupied in trying to secure loan deals the best they can and saving his hopes of player recruitments for the summer when they do have actual funds available.
Barcelona’s Denis Suarez has reportedly agreed terms with Arsenal and is on the verge of singing for the rest of the season but Barcelona are looking to include a sell-in package at the end of the season, which has put the move into slight complication and Emery seemed somewhat pessimistic about Arsenal’s chances of making any actual signing this season.
“This transfer window is not easy to take players that can help us with better performances than the players we have now,” he said.
“The club is working and I spoke with Sven, with Raul about different possibilities with players. They are working but it is not easy to take players that can help us with big performances now.
“I think it is more one transfer for something special you need that can help us.
“We are looking, the club is working with the possibility to loan players and if we can take for helping us in a different position on the team, then maybe we can.”
Arsenal have a very shaky and porous defence this season. Petr Cech who is announcing his retirement at the end of the season has also opened up a fresh spot in the squad for next season.

Arsenal desperately need a solid defence to compete for the top four this season and at the moment things aren’t looking that well for the gunners.
Ozil is another player who is taking a huge pay check every week but has failed to make the match day squad for the last couple of weeks. It is being reported that Emery actually wants to sell the german to potential suitors.
It is very likely that he will move to AC Milan to free up some funds but Arsenal still would have to pay a large amount of his wages for any potential club to be able to afford him.
A winger is also a priority at Arsenal but with the lack of cash at disposal it will be pure luck if they can land a quality target this window.
With Arsenal coming up against Chelsea at the Emirates this weekend, it will be interesting to see how Arsenal line up for what could be their biggest game this season if they are to have any chance of finishing in the top four at all.
