Saka Return, Laca To Start | Here’s How Arsenal’s Starting XI Will Look Like Against Everton

Everton vs Arsenal

Arsenal will travel to Goodison Park for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Everton. Both teams have lost their recent fixtures and would be desperate to get back to winning ways again. The Gunners will be more hungry for the win after losing out 3-2 in a close battle against Manchester United, while the Merseysiders will be looking to revive their season after 2 win-less months.

Everton did the double over Arsenal last season, winning 2-1 at home before a 1-0 win at the Emirates. Also, the Gunners have won just once in their last five meetings with the Toffees in the Premier League. However, the teams have changed since then and so have their current form.

The hosts have managed only 2 points in their last 8 league matches, losing 6 and drawing 2 and are languishing at 16th place. Meanwhile, the North London outfit have regained their form since their 5-0 loss to Manchester City in August, having lost only 2 league games in 12, while winning 7 and drawing 3.

Moreover, Arsenal have a better head-to-head record against Everton, winning 50% of their matches while drawing 22%. Interestingly, Goodison Park has been kind to the Gunners in those fixtures, where they have managed a 67% win rate.

Currently, Arsenal are standing at 7th position on the points table, 4 points behind fourth-placed West Ham United with a game in hand. After missing out on a golden chance to move into the top four last week, Arteta’s men will be looking to close the gap with a win.

Arteta will be looking to take control of the game through midfield and set his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation to counter Everton’s 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 set-up. Let’s take a look at how the visitors should line up against the Merseysiders to come home with a positive result.

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale (GK): Ramsdale will certainly want a clean sheet at Goodison Park after conceding goals in 2 out of 3 previous games. The English shot-stopper knows the attacking threat Everton players pose but should be able to cope up with it.

Defence

Takehiro Tomiyasu (RB): High intensity and tireless performer for the Gunners, will be keeping his place in the starting lineup. He needs to balance out between attack and defence to harm Everton.

Ben White (CB): Ben White will be looking to mark Richarlison and Townsend’s runs. Also, he must try making some forward runs to disrupt Everton’s formation.

Gabriel (CB): No doubt, Arsenal’s defence marshal will keep his place in the starting lineup. He will be key for Arsenal during dead-ball situations, besides intercepting Everton attacks.

Nuno Tavares (LB): Tavares seems to be in Arteta’s long-term plan and will look to cement his place in the starting XI from the left side of the defence before Tierney returns from injury.

Midfield

Thomas Partey (CM): Compared to the previous 2 league matches, Partey had a much better game against Manchester United and will play an important role on Monday.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (CM): After the failed experiment with Elneny in the United fixture, Arteta must return to Lokonga as the midfield partner for Partey. The Belgian has a great chance to shine in this fixture and make a statement with his performance.

Bukayo Saka (RM): Mikel Arteta has preferred Saka as his pivotal player on the right flank throughout this season, and after a substitute appearance against United, the young Englishman shall regain his place in the starting XI against the Toffees.

Martin Odegaard (AM): Odegaard played well against United and Arteta will be counting on the Norwegian to deliver on Monday again.

Emile Smith Row (LM): ESR found the net at Old Trafford, topping the scoring charts for the Gunners. He is a certain starter for the team and Arteta would want his golden boy to continue his goal-scoring form at Goodison Park.

Attack

Alexandre Lacazette (ST): Lacazette must return to the starting lineup if Arsenal want a positive result against Everton. Aubameyang hasn’t delivered at all this season and its high time other players get their fair chance. Lacazette is being rumoured with a move away from North London, so he will be eager to prove his importance with an emphatic performance on Monday.

Predicted Everton vs Arsenal Score

Everton are currently facing several issues – injuries, suspension, team morale and performances. Arsenal will be eager to take advantage and move closer to the top 4. The expected scoreline is a 2-0 win in Arsenal’s favour.
