3-On-3 for Antony While Ronaldo Reaches Landmark Goal | Players Ratings From United’s Hard-Fought Win at Everton

Everton vs Manchester United, Man United

A tenacious performance saw Man United clinch a hard-fought victory at Goodison Park on Sunday as the Red Devils defeated Everton 1-2; moving into the fifth position in the Premier League table ahead of a demanding slew of fixtures. While much remains to be improved upon on the pitch, Erik Ten Hag’s side remained dominant for the most part of the game, with the team having been resilient in their mentality against the Toffees on Sunday.

An eye-catching start to proceedings saw both sides look to find the back of the net from the first whistle at Goodison. Seeking advantage of the space across United’s midfield, the Toffees succeeded in opening the scoresheet on the evening with Alex Iwobi’s thunderous strike from the edge of the 18-yard-box, finding the top-right-hand corner of the net in the 5th minute.

Having gradually grown into the game after conceding first, Man United resorted to a possession-based attacking approach, having largely nullified the attacking prowess of Everton before the half-time break. An excellent break from midfield saw the Red Devils level the score in the 15th minute, with Antony registering his third goal in three games on Sunday.

With Everton struggling to cope with the Red Devils’ attacks, following a piece of brilliant defending by Casemiro, the Brazilian’s incisive pass into Cristiano Ronaldo’s path saw the striker register his 700th club career goal, giving Man United the lead moments before half-time.

Aiming to increase their lead in the second half, the Red Devils continued to dominate the game for most of the 45 minutes, with Marcus Rashford having found the back of the net before the goal been called off by VAR for a controversial handball on part of the United attacker. A period of pressure from Everton saw the hosts pin back Man United in the final quarter of the game, however, failing to find the equaliser before the full-time whistle.
