Ronaldo Scores 700th Club Career Goal to Seal Win Against Frank Lampard’s Men | Three Crucial Lessons Learnt From the United-Everton Game

Everton vs Manchester United

We learnt three key things as Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s 700th club career goal. The hosts struck first with Alex Iwobi’s sublime goal early in the game. A pair of well-taken goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo meant United took all three points on Sunday.

The Portuguese international made a great impact, sweeping a low finish beneath Jordan Pickford following Casemiro’s pass for his 700th career club goal. Marcus Rashford scored a third goal for the Red Devils in the second half but it was chalked off by VAR. United withstood an aerial onslaught from Everton for the last 10 minutes to claim the vital win.

1. Ronaldo Scores His 700th Career Club Goal

Cristiano Ronaldo was brought on early in the match due to an injury to Anthony Martial and it proved to be the turning point for him and the team. The Portuguese legend had struggled to score goals this season, with a solitary penalty goal against Sheriff in Europa League.

Ronaldo took full advantage of Casemiro’s excellent through ball, with his scorer’s instinct kicking in when one-on-one with Jordan Pickford. This was the first goal he has scored from open play this season, and his 700th career club goal, a phenomenal record.

2. Antony Continues To Impress With His Simple But Effective Style

United hit back with a breakaway goal from Antony, who demonstrated excellent composure when one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The new signing from Ajax now has three goals in three Premier League games, following strikes against Arsenal and Manchester City.

Bruno Fernandes had won the ball back in midfield to start the move before Anthony Martial picked out the Brazilian’s run with a perfect pass. The former Ajax attacker slotted the ball into the far corner with a superb left-footed finish.

3. Casemiro Shows Signs Of Settling In

Casemiro was rewarded for his strong performance in the Omonia vs United game in the Europa League with a start against Everton on Sunday. Initially, he struggled with the intensity and lost possession which lead to the early goal for Alex Iwobi. But he eventually got his rhythm going and won the ball back to set up Ronaldo’s goal.

Other than that, he missed a really good chance to score and had a penalty shout waved off. By signing Casemiro, many fans felt like the club have finally signed the defensive midfielder they had been crying out for and he showed his worth with a man-of-the-match performance.

Frank Lampard’s men had conceded the fewest goals by any Premier League side before this match, but they had also only scored seven times in their first eight games. There was no lack of endeavour from Everton, but creating clear-cut chances against a resolute United defence proved difficult.

It was a well-deserved win with the Red Devils clearly the better team. The team had to hang on at the end, with David de Gea making a late diving save to prevent an injury-time equaliser. The victory moves United up into fifth place, and this come-from-behind win was the ideal way to bounce back from last week’s derby loss.
