Arsenal 5 – 1 PSG | Five Things You Need To Know About Arsenal’s Encounter With PSG

Arsenal’s 5-1 win over French favourite PSG has raised their confidence levels until their next encounter against London rivals Chelsea as a pre-season game in Dublin on Wednesday. PSG who appointed Thomas Tuchel this year, had his star players on World Cup Holidays. Against a team that was well stacked with teenagers, the Londoners overcame PSG with Mesut Ozil, Rob Holding and Eddie Nketiah each finding the net once while Alexandre Lacazette scored a brace.

Here are five important facts of the game played in Singapore:

1. Ozil As Captain.

Unai Emery had stated in his earlier interview before the tour to ‘create’ five captains in the team so that each one of them could be a major part of an important team decision. Ozil was handed the armband against PSG by Emery  so that, perhaps, could redeem his act of retiring from international football and provide support to the new club manager by sharing his experiences over the years.

Ozil played his first official game since Germany’s World Cup exit which led to racist comments on him. He settled into a new position just behind Aubameyang which enabled him to invent gaps and also score the first goal.

2. Lacazette Brace And Ozil, Holding and Nketiah Score.

A brilliant ball to Aubameyang saw him stretch out towards the right flank of the pitch in order to gain some space. With only one defender between him and Ozil, he managed to cross it to Ozil who was running along to finish that cross in the 13th minute of the game against the veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon scoring the first goal against PSG.

Post-halftime against PSG  witnessed many youngsters take on the pitch with Emil Smith Rowe again, assisting Lacazette in the 67th minute, making it 2-1 against PSG who intended to reach the ball as soon as it was deployed and resulted the ball to just flick off his foot, hit the crossbar and land home.

The 71st minute potrayed an aerial ping pong with Lacazette claiming the last touch before the goal was headed in making it 3-1 PSG.A floating corner by Reiss Nelson into the box (in the 87th minute), approximately 13-15 yards out, saw Holding rise to the ball to head it into the left top corner,4-1 PSG. Sebastien Cibois, the substitute goalkeeper, replaced the veteran and had no chance other than to watch the ball fly into the corner of his net.

During the injury time, Nketiah drilled a grounded shot into the left corner after Nelson perfectly threaded a through ball towards him, scoring the final goal. 5-1 PSG.

3. Youngsters Shine

Emil Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Matteo Guendouzi have been the standouts after these two pre-season games in Singapore.

Smith Rowe scored an important goal during the last game, which saw the game progress towards penalties because of his effort. And this game he managed to spot a running Lacazette into the box and successfully, completed that move with a brilliant flicked goal by Lacazette.

Reiss Nelson has been important to provide the crosses from the flanks. Assisting twice against PSG, he has shown remarkable capability and competency for his inclusion into the squad .

Guendouzi has been magnificent with his defensive and passing skills showing supremacy and maturity when compared to players of his age.

4. Defense Worries?  Solved!

Matteo Guendouzi has been the deciding factor in these games; Although not gaining enough exposure due to his tender age, he has shown the fans that 7 million was actually a steal for the Londoners.

Check out for his stats!!!

Mustafi and Monreal have shown their abilities to standout in a few games, but they still need to work on being noticed on the pitch.Rob Holding has shown his heading potential with a massive jump at this game to find himself in the score sheet.

5. Well Worked Out Tactics By Emery.

Unai is responsibe for the tactical changes in the team as the job of a manager entails this fact and he got them spot on against his former club PSG. Ozil playing behind Aubameyang turned out to be a great plan as to give Ozil the space he needed. He launched himself during Aubameyang’s run to finish by providing the last touch.

Emil Smith Rowe, Lacazette and Holding were brought on at half time while Ozil was taken off. This action yielded great results with them scoring or assisting vs PSG.Although the passing game is widely appreciated, Arsenal could find themselves in dire straits when the ball is passed into their defensive third since they mostly lose their possession in that region and PSG counter-attacked in such situations.

Although it was PSG B Team,Arsenal looked comfortable enough, both at front and in the back and were a joy to watch, especially in the Second Half when they went all guns firing and scored four goals. Gunners now head back to London before their next ICC match against Chelsea in Dublin.
