Fantasy Premier League Game Week 2 Top Picks: Aubameyang, Vardy, Bruno and KDB Lead the Way

FPL Game Week 2

The Premier League is back for Game Week 2 and by this time, you should be ready with your FPL teams. There’s not much to worry about if you missed out on Game Week 1 as four teams will kick off their Premiership campaign this week, including both the Manchester clubs.

So, there’s a lot to look out for and you might end up with an advantage starting your FPL season from Game Week 2. You can analyse how players performed in the first week alongside the benefit of adding players from the four teams starting their campaign this week like Sterling, KDB, Fernandes, Rashford, Martial, Laporte, Grealish, Martinez, Dwight McNeill, Pope, Tarkowski, and more.

Moreover, Game Week 1 starters will get only a single transfer while if you start from Game Week 2, you get unlimited transfers before the deadline on Saturday. On the contrary, this could be a greater advantage for second-week starters, having the bonus of unlimited transfers and Manchester players taking the field. So, let’s have a look at how your team should be lined up for FPL Game Week 2.

Goalkeepers:

Spending too much on goalkeepers doesn’t seem beneficial. In goal, we have Nick Pope prized at £5.5, who is cheaper in comparison to Ederson and Alisson but finished as the highest-scoring goalie on 170 points last season by raking up an impressive 15 clean sheets for Burnley. Burnley kick-off their campaign in Game Week 2.

The consistent Kasper Schmeichel (156 points) stands at £5.5 and concluded Game Week 1 on 6 points. Last year’s breakthrough keeper Dean Henderson (160 points) has a £5.5 price tag but might not get the nod ahead of De Gea. Other cheaper and reliable options include Sheffield’s newly signed Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0m) and Mathew Ryan (£4.5m) of Brighton.

Defenders:

Both the Manchester clubs kick-off their Premier League 2020/21 season this week, with both teams looking to challenge for the title. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be a good addition as the full-back offers potential on both ends of the pitch. Lucas Digne offers creativity upfront as well as solidarity at the back, finishing last season with 8 assists and nine clean sheets and is coming off the back of a 12 point at Spurs last week.

It is foolish to not have players from Liverpool. Both Liverpool full-backs, Trent-Arnold and Robertson, had the highest points by a defender in the previous season. Van Dijk is on a roll with amazing performances in the back-to-back season, but his display against Leeds last week was poor, to say the least. However, clean sheets will come for sure with the Dutchman at the back.

Matt Doherty was one of the best returners last season (167 pts) for Wolves, his move to Jose’s defensive setup at Tottenham in this transfer market is a sure shot win-win situation. Burnley had a surprisingly good defence last season and their defender James Tarkowski had a good run (143 pts), this season he comes at £5.5 and should certainly be a top choice for the upcoming matches. Leeds United’s Stuart Dallas is being considered to have a breakthrough season, he is reliable and offers plenty of attacking promise at just £4.5.

Other players to look at are Romain Saiss of Wolves, City’s Aymeric Laporte (if fit), Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal), Thiago Silva (Chelsea), Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira (if fit), and Reece James (Chelsea).

Midfielders:

There’s a lot of food for thought in midfield. Kevin De Bruyne is a must-have for your FPL team. KDB had the maximum points overall (251 pts) last year, recording 13 goals and 23 assists with a total of 35 bonus points, but comes at a buzzing price tag of £11.5. Expect him to deliver vital FPL points from the get-go as City begins there Premiership campaign from Game Week 2 against Wolves.

The same goes for Bruno Fernandes, who has caught the eye of many FPL managers. The Portuguese acquired a total of 117 points, even though he joined in the winter transfer window at Game Week 25. Bruno’s price tag is set at £10.5m and he should certainly be one of the key picks for team owners.

Sadio Mane (221 pts) and Mohamed Salah (233 pts) were Liverpool’s top two players last season and they will deliver this season as well, coming at the price of £12m. Although Mane has started the season slowly and has seen his value dip by £0.1 before Game Week 2, Salah topped the FPL scoring charts with 20 points in Game Week 1. Man City’s Raheem Sterling comes at £11.5m, delivering a total of 204 points last season and was City’s major contributor after Kevin De Bruyne.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang racked up a total of 205 points last season, scoring 22 goals. You can count on the Gabonese forward to deliver even this year, having begun the campaign against Fulham with a score of 7 points, but comes at a hefty price of £12.0. Marcus Rashford (177 points) was one of the top FPL scorers for the Red Devils with Martial the only other United player to score more than him, with 17 goals and 8 assists and comes at a price tag of £9.5.

We have Heung-Min Son (169 pts) coming at £9, who is one of Tottenham’s key players, and seeing his consistency over the years, will certainly deliver points for your team this season as well. Even glimpses of Dele Alli rejuvenating under Jose Mourinho were seen last year, and you can fit him in your teams as well at just £7.9.

Riyad Mahrez is another good pick at just a low £8.5, acquiring a total of 175 points in the 19/20 season. Aston Villa’s captain Jack Grealish had 149 points last season and is a reliable player to have in your team for a lower price range of £7m. Other budget options include Mason Greenwood (£7.5), James Maddison (£7), Lucas Moura (£7), Ayoze Perez (£6.5), Youri Tieliemans (£6.5), Adama Traore (£6.5), and Diogo Jota (£6.5).

For midfielders to bench with decent returns, Jordan Henderson (£5.5), Rodrigo (£5.5), John Lundstram (£5.5), Leeds United’s Jack Harrison (£5.5), Ruben Neves (£5.5), Jorginho (£5) and Ndidi (£5) are good options.

Forwards:

Adding Jamie Vardy (£10.0), last season’s Golden Boot winner, and highest-scoring fantasy forward (210 points), to your FPL team, is a no-brainer, especially after Aubameyang’s been shifted to midfield. He has already started this campaign with a bang by giving 13 points in Game Week 1. Expect him to score more FPL points in the coming weeks, with a home game against Burnley coming up in Game Week 2.

Anthony Martial (£9.0) is another forward to look out for with a return of 200 points in the season just gone by. He was the highest-scoring Manchester United player last season with 17 goals and 9 assists and Solskjaer has entrusted him the responsibility of being the sole striker by not buying additional players for that position. He will be looking to begin the campaign on a high against Crystal Palace at home in Game Week 2 and expect him to deliver vital FPL points.

Danny Ings was the surprise package in the previous season, played exceptionally well, and finished with a tally of 198 points. His career-high 22 goals in a Premier League campaign saved Southampton from relegation. He started slowly but will certainly catch up with easier fixtures lined up for Southampton in the coming weeks and given his exploits, Ings is a bargain at £8.5.

Wolves’ Jimenez had a blast of a season, raking up a points tally of 195 and is a steal deal at £8.5. Began the campaign with 8 FPL points and is expected to continue on this path with easy fixtures, except for Manchester City in Game Week 2. Richarlison is a fairly decent striker at a very modest £8.0, finishing on a total of 165 points last season.

Another pricey option might be Sergio Aguero, who, if fit, yields key FPL points. Delivered a total of 135 points in just 1449 minutes of playing time. Other options who might furnish vital FPL points include Harry Kane (£10.5), Gabriel Jesus (£9.5), and Chelsea’s recruit Timo Werner (£8.5), although he might be unavailable for Game Week 2.

Calvert-Lewin (£7.1), Callum Wilson (£6.5), Sebastian Haller (£6.4), Jordan Ayew (£6.0), Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.0) and Patrick Bamford (£5.6) are some perfect budget options to choose from.

Captaincy:

There are many contenders for captaincy for Game Week 2. Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Anthony Martial begin the season at home against Crystal Palace, Jamie Vardy plays Burnley at home, De Bruyne hits off against Wolves at Molineux, while Aubameyang faces West Ham at the Emirates. Looking at the fixtures, the safest bet for captaincy lies with Aubameyang with Vardy being the vice-captain.
