Conflicting Reports Concerning Odegaard’s Future But The Decision Could Ultimately Rest With The Player

Martin Odegaard, Real Madrid

There are a lot of complicated factors concerning the future of Martin Odegaard, but unsurprisingly, there are no easy solutions. The Norwegian midfielder, who has had Arsenal fans salivating at the prospect of a permanent move to North London, is set to return to Real Madrid in the summer but there are suggestions that the player is seriously considering his options.

However, other factors may influence a deal or no-deal scenario, including the position of Real manager Zinedine Zidane, who isn’t exactly bombproof at Odegaard’s parent club. Real also have money issues which were at one point unthinkable for a club that spent phenomenal amounts every year on the finest talent, but is now considering the restrictive reality of balancing the books.

Even though most online bookies like have their first bets on Real managing to retain the Norwegian’s services rather than him extending his stay at North London next season, lack of guarantee over first team football and service meted out to him so far at Real could help tip things in Arsenal’s favour.

This financial situation could certainly influence the Spanish giants to offload certain players, Odegaard included and although this sounds like positive news for Arsenal fans, it isn’t necessarily the case. The manager’s future and the club’s finances may be linked because until the first is resolved, the second looks unlikely to become clear and Odegaard is an emerging player who wouldn’t be cheap to replace.

The midfielder has shown that he can adapt to a different country, club, and league and that he has the intelligence, touch, and character to perform well in a short space of time and this surely adds to Real’s reluctance to let him leave.

There’s a suggestion that Madrid are interested in Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who is valued at around £100m. Odegaard’s sale would go some way to meeting that fee, but who would want to separate these international teammates, one a playmaker, the other a hot striker, surely you’d want both. There’s a natural connection there that could facilitate success across the board and it could be an alliance that would interest Odegaard as he seeks to completely invest himself in a club.

All of this looks extremely negative to the Arsenal cause but if Zidane stays, the dynamic changes drastically unless the French manager can guarantee the midfielder regular playing time. Yet, it’s no secret that Odegaard isn’t a fan of the former World Cup winner’s man management.

Odegaard’s Improving Performances and Influential Role at the Emirates Could be Cause for Concern

Odegaard wants to put down roots and feel appreciated which he certainly would be at Arsenal. He enjoys a fruitful relationship with Mikel Arteta and is happy that his efforts have been noticed by supporters. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that count in a profession with astronomical wages and luxurious lifestyles.

The player himself may have the ace in the hole in this whole saga. If Zidane stays, then it might trigger a move, but if a change of manager occurred, Odegaard might finally get his chance to showcase his talents at Real. Nothing is guaranteed in this situation and the circumstances could change dramatically, negatively, or positively from Arsenal’s perspective.
