United Legend Challenges Anthony Martial To Earn His Place In Jose Mourinho’s Squad

Robson on Anthony Martial

Back in 2015, when Louis Van Gaal signed the untested Anthony Martial for a massive £58m from AS Monaco, he claimed that he had signed the teenager for then Assistant Coach Ryan Giggs.

He started 30 matches for the Red Devils in his first season, which showed that Van Gaal and Ryan Giggs were truly into Martial’s potential. Contrary to his first season, he started only 18 games last season losing out his place to Rashford in first half of the season and then to Alexis Sanchez after the winter break.

There’s no secret, the agent of player openly stated that Martial is not happy at the club and would be open to leave. One of the major reasons being his relationship with the manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is no big fan of Martial and when given a chance to showcase his talent the player has let the manager down. Despite all of these current affairs, Ryan Giggs has urged him to stay and fight for his place.

Giggs in his Sky Sports column wrote,

“I hope Anthony Martial comes back and fights for his team and once the transfer window closes in Europe then hopefully he will be able to concentrate on his football,

We have seen glances of his qualities, which are definitely there, but it’s up to him to prove he deserves a starting place again.”

Recently Mourinho confirmed that the player had been fined for not reporting back to training on time after the birth of his son last month. With the club and player’s mindset not on the same wavelength this might prove costly for both the parties.

Martial was an unused substitute in the league opening game, though he started the second game as he was substituted after 60 odd minutes, United lost 2-3 against Brighton.

The club has already given much time for the player as he has spent 3 seasons at the club and now it is time for Martial to show his talent and fight for a place in the Starting XIs. Its going to be a tough season for the Martial as he will be competing against the likes of Lukaku, Alexis, Rashford, Lingard, Mata for the front three.
