Finally, good news from Spain for Arsenal and their summer transfer plans

Martin Odegaard, Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, Arsenal

The Daily Mail has excited Arsenal fans with news of a clear-out at Real Madrid that could include Gareth Bale, Dani Ceballos, and more importantly, Martin Odegaard to finance a bid for PSG star Kylian Mbappe or Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet AS (via Daily Mail) suggests that Real Madrid is trying to offload players, many of them on loan, to reinvent his strike options and that’s fabulous news for the Gunners as Odegaard has started to show the type of player he is. He fits the Arsenal profile perfectly, but the asking price will certainly take some inventive negotiations with the DM quoting it a very reasonable £34m.

The Norwegian would certainly be an upgrade on the recently departed Ozil, purely in terms of work rate and promise. At West Ham, he looked like the side’s conductor with his array of silky skills and appetite to win. Edu should be on the phone immediately to secure the baller’s services, who is now on the radar of City and Liverpool.

Zidane has to retain his job for this news to be openly celebrated, but it’s not uncommon for the Spanish giants to go deep into the transfer market when the season hasn’t panned out and to buy a star name just to appease the fans. Madrid currently stand third in La Liga, six points off the pace which is deemed as a failure by the club’s own standards and Zidane isn’t safe by any means.

Odegaard would be incredibly influential in Arsenal’s rebuild and has shown that he can handle the cut and thrust of the Premier League far more comfortably than Dani Cabellos who will be incredibly fortunate to stay in the premiership past his current loan spell.

Ceballos, in theory, could also be added to the Arsenal inventory, but has he shown enough? Not for me. Let’s hope that the drama in Spain works in Arsenal’s favour and that a deal can be cut quickly.
