AC Milan want Ivan Gazidis | Why Arsenal should let him leave

Gazidis, Ivan Gazidis to AC Milan,

Imagine an Arsenal without Stan Kronke , imagine the club minus the odious Ivan Gazidis. Alright , it sounds like the stuff of fantasy and stops just short of the lyrics of a well known John Lennon classic but when AC Milan’s expressed interest in acquiring the services of Arsenal’s CEO , I became very excited.[spacer height=”30px”]

The man has been a liability for Arsenal and has mismanaged numerous situations at the club including Wenger’s contract extension and subsequent sacking. Now it appears , for some , he can’t do any wrong. Some Arsenal fans may be in the mood to forgive due to the outing of Wenger , the appointment of his enthusiastic replacement , Unai Emery and the use of £70 million , so far ,to refresh the squad.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Unfortunately, I am not the forgiving type and even if Arsenal were to win the premiership at Emery’s first attempt , it wouldn’t be enough to clear the slate for Gazidis. This unsavoury character, is not at Arsenal for the same reasons as its fans and both he and absentee landlord, Stan Kroenke, are players in the commodities market.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Arsenal is a marketable brand , that represents opportunities to gain lucrative endorsements, it has the potential to yield longterm financial associations and perpetuate a steady stream of revenue. Yes , it’s not the first consideration on the minds of ordinary Arsenal fans but do not be deceived by Arsenal’s recent cash splash.[spacer height=”30px”]

It’s all about maintaining a presence in the most prestigious league in the World and opening the gates for increased financial gain. Kroenke and Gazidis preside over a club that is regarded as one of the finest and most historic in this Country , yet neither show genuine passion for football or the club , so if either or both were to leave , it would be , quite possibly a similar feeling to winning the Champions league.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Gazidis quest to be appreciated in the same way as David Dein will never happen. Dein was an Arsenal supporter first and foremost , someone who became part of the fabric of the club and yes , he was well rewarded for his efforts but he had the interests of the club at heart, both from a financial perspective and from that of the fans.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]He was responsible for one of the most successful periods in our history, under Arsene Wenger. Along with the Frenchman , he established a blueprint for attractive , free flowing football that has become admired around the World.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]By contrast , Gazidis, has presided over a number of sound financial deals but struggled to establish a winning formula. There has been chaos, mismanagement and misunderstandings on a grand scale , all of which , Gazidis wants to turn around.[spacer height=”30px”]

So , it’s unlikely his ego will allow his departure and the case of Champagne I have put aside , will remain chilled until that truly wonderful day when Ivan ‘ the terrible ‘ Gazidis heads out of the Emirates.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Highbury Flyer
Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
