Arsenal failed in their recent bid of £31.2m plus Matteo Guendouzi for Lyon attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar (22) but it’s not over yet, with the Gunners preparing to throw everything into the pot to prize him away from the French club.
Reports suggest that Lyon value the player at £50m but with a degree of common sense in the current market, £45m would appear to be an appropriate value for a player that is still developing and has scored just nine goals in 41 games in all competitions. Nevertheless, Arsenal are reluctant to match the £45m valuation because of a tight budget and the recent £27m signing of Gabriel Magalhaes.
However, it’s his quality, general contribution, and consistency that merit the hefty price tag, with many top players claiming that Houssem Aouar is a major talent including Kevin De Bruyne. The Manchester City star said:
“I don’t watch a lot of French football but if I had to pick it one name, for me it would be Houssem Aouar.”
The rumour is that Arsenal have had productive discussions and with the new season approaching, Edu is about to table one last bid to secure the Frenchman’s talents. The payment deal will be crucial, with a large cash sum and possibly, a split payment when limited crowds are allowed back in attendance.
Arsenal’s progression to the final stages of the Europa League may also be essential to eventually balance the books or the club may face massive losses. Expect the name of Houssem Aouar to appear over the next few weeks and according to a source close to the club, Arsenal are supposedly very hopeful of closing the deal with Lyon.
