Highly-Rated Arsenal Defender has Joined Bundesliga Side Permanently on a Free Transfer

Jordi Osei-Tutu

As reported on the official Arsenal website last week, young defender Jordi Osei-Tutu has exited the Emirates. The 23-year-old right-back has joined Bundesliga side VfL Bochum on a permanent move.

Jordi Osei-Tutu is an Arsenal academy product who has enjoyed loan spells with various clubs in his career. The Englishman has gained valuable experience from playing at different clubs such as Cardiff, Nottingham Forest, Rotherdam, etc. and has earned plaudits for his excellent performances.

The young right-back had spent the 2019-20 campaign with VfL Bochum on a season-long loan. The club used to ply their trade in the second division of the Bundesliga at that time. They got promoted to the German first-division last season. To strengthen their team, they have signed Osei-Tutu on a free transfer.

After establishing himself as a promising Hale End graduate, Jordi Osei-Tutu was soon earmarked to make his way into Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven. But the defender’s path was hampered by injuries which kept him out of the Gunners first-team.

Nevertheless, he identified a career revamp and spent the entire 2020-21 season with Cardiff City on loan where he made his debut in the first round of the Carabao Cup. But his development was cut short once again after picking up a hamstring injury.

Osei-Tutu, however, picked up right where he left off and started the 2021/22 campaign on loan to Nottingham Forest. The right-back made just four appearances in the EFL Championship (stats via Transfermarkt) as he struggled with injuries during this spell too – leaving the club with no option but to cut short his loan spell due to fitness concerns.

In the January of this year, the 23-year-old joined EFL League One club Rotherham United. There, he managed to stay fit and play games on a consistent basis that helped him garner positive reviews for putting up desired performances. The wing-back even scored in the EFL Trophy Final victory against Sutton United, making a total of 14 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt) for Rotherdam in just four months.

Jordi Osei-Tutu, on many occasions, found himself out of the big picture at the Emirates Stadium because of his injury issues. His days were likewise numbered, leaving the North London club with no alternative but to allow their young talent to leave on a free transfer in this summer transfer window.

The English defender is eager to return to the German grounds. VfL Bochum, who were previously poised to sign the defender permanently, have finally announced his return. The youngster is reportedly set to sign a three-year contract with the club until 2025.

Jordi Osei-Tutu returning to familiar surroundings at the German club will help him reignite and make progress in his career. With his talent, the young lad is hopeful of adding quality to the play and developing as a first-team player under manager Thomas Reis.
