After Rui Faria, Jorge Alvial, the international scout at Manchester United and one of Jose Mourinho’s close aides has left United for FC Cincinnati to join as their head scout for MLS 2019. Seeing as things stand right now for United, one would certainly feel – Is Jose losing key men off the field?
Jorge Alvial has been with Mourinho when he was at Chelsea in 2006 and returned to United in 2016 when Mourinho recommended him for the role. He was responsible for hunting talent in America in the age groups of 17-24 and has previous experience there having worked with Sporting Kansas City and Atlanta United. Jorge Alvial will be working under technical director Luke Sassano.
“We’re excited to bring Jorge, Hunter, and Doug to FC Cincinnati..” Sassano said in a team statement.
“Jorge has a tremendous track record and an extensive scouting network that has aided in his ability to identify elite talent and professional players at the highest level of world football. Between his Premier League experience and his work in and familiarity with MLS, we believe he’ll he a key asset to us as we continue to build our first-team roster.”
Rui Faria had left before the start of the season and he was one of the key members of the United dressing room as he was highly influential among the players. Both of them have been close aides for the United boss and this deals a blow now with the season having already been in turmoil so far.
United have only won 1 of their last 7 games in all competitions following their defeat to Juventus in the Champions league group fixture. Mourinho has come under severe criticism from all quarters with the win against Newcastle coming as a breather in between. They are improving, having narrowly drawn with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge courtesy a late equaliser from Barkley for the hosts. United host Everton on Sunday.
Also, things have not been really good between Mourinho and his players with the verbal spat between him and Pogba still a fresh memory and more controversies brewing here and there. We hope this is not a key blow to United and Mourinho with some notable performances coming in the past few matches but a cohesive response is yet to come. Is Jose losing key men off the field will still be debatable in the days to come.
