AS Roma Eyeing A January Move For Out of Favour Manchester United Defender; Jose Mourinho Keen On The Signing

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Crystal Palace, AS Roma

Out of favour Manchester United full-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has reportedly garnered the interest of AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese manager looks to land the full-back in the upcoming transfer window.

Having registered a single competitive start in the league (that too because of Diogo Dalot’s injury) since Erik ten Hag’s appointment at United at the start of the campaign, Wan-Bissaka is expected to seek a new challenge with the Red Devils likely to sanction a loan move or a permanent sale of the right-back this January.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (via Football Italia), Wan-Bissaka is said to be on Mourinho’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window as AS Roma look to bolster their options in the full-back position.

With Diogo Dalot having cemented his place in the full-back position at United and the club reportedly drawing up a shortlist of right-backs to target for the upcoming winter window, Wan-Bissaka is more than likely to leave Old Trafford in the coming months.

Moreover, having played only four competitive minutes for United this season while Dalot was fit, the out-of-favour full-back remains keen on a move abroad although his former club Crystal Palace remain interested in re-signing the player.

With Roma’s Rick Karsdorp expected to move in January, 25-year-old Wan-Bissaka emerges as an appealing candidate for a manager keen on prioritising the defensive organisation while executing his philosophy.

Additionally, with reports suggesting that the player has already been offered to Mourinho by an intermediary alongside having been previously linked with the player, Wan-Bissaka is expected to finalise a move away from Old Trafford this January transfer window.

Verdict

Unlikely to get a consistent run of games for United under Ten Hag this season as long as Diogo Dalot stays fit, Wan-Bissaka emerges as the likeliest of players to leave the Red Devils in January.

With Mourinho having likely favoured Wan-Bissaka’s notable defensive attributes over his offensive deficiencies, a move to AS Roma could serve as an exciting prospect for the full-back.

Moreover, in need of regular game-time, Wan-Bissaka is expected to seek a move, with United expected to prioritise a permanent deal for the full-back this January.
