Transfer Setback as €35m Rated Striker to Reject Manchester United In Favour of Dortmund

As per the latest reports, Manchester United are likely to miss out on RB Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi, given the young striker favours a move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick wanted to bolster the team’s frontline by securing the services of the German forward.

The Red Devils are already without the services of Mason Greenwood. They are even bound to lose Edinson Cavani on a free transfer this summer. On the other hand, doubts are hovering around the future of Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial, and Cristiano Ronaldo. This has left United handicapped. Rangnick, therefore, feels it is desirable to get hold of strong signings that will add value to the team.

In his press conference, ahead of Manchester United’s final home game of the 2021-22 season, Ralf Rangnick briefed about recruitment and more among other things saying:

“For me, the most important bit is recruitment now. This is, for me, the most vital point – that we bring in the best possible players and speak about that, who could that be. This is what I see as the most important bit.”

“The club should try to find future top star players and develop them. [Focus] on trying to identify, find and convince players who could be Manchester United players for the next couple of years.”

As reported by SPORT1 journalist Patrick Berger (via The Sun), RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi has decided to snub a contract offer worth £150,000-a-week from Manchester United and make a return to his home country. The report claims the 20-year-old will join Dortmund on a five-year deal for £32million.

The Germans have an excellent record of developing players and moulding them into world-class talents. Notable and proven examples from recent times are Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, and so on.

Therefore, Karim Adeyemi’s choice to join Dortmund in the summer should come as no surprise, especially when the player believes that he has a high chance of developing and flourishing as a top star in the German league more than anywhere else.

Nevertheless, Manchester United aren’t the only club that is said to be interested in the services of Karim Adeyemi. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was also heavily linked to making a contract offer for the German international. However, the Reds settled for Benfica’s Luis Diaz during the January transfer window.

Even Arsenal were looking into the availability of the RB Salzburg hitman. The departure of key players and many forwards in the squad being close to leaving have created a vacuum in Arsenal’s frontline. This has pushed Mikel Arteta to look for the light in the problem, which happens to be Karim Adeyemi. However, the Gunners were put off by the youngster’s huge asking price.

Karim Adeyemi rose through the ranks at the youth academy of TSV Forstenried before joining Bayern Munich. However, after progressing with various German clubs, the 20-year-old was signed up by RB Salzburg prior to the 2018-19 season.

Until now, the German youngster is thought to be among the most promising young forwards in Europe. At the tender age of twenty, he has had a lucrative career so far. He has racked up 23 goals and provided 8 assists in 42 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt) for the Austrian club across all competitions this season.

Adeyemi has also made a name for himself with the German national team, particularly after winning the Under-21 European Championship last year. He scored one goal in three appearances for the Die Mannschaft. Thus, it is evident why big clubs are battling hard to sign the bright young forward.

Borussia Dortmund are also on the lookout for a striker this summer as they try to replace Erling Haaland, who is said to be determined on a move to an elite club this summer, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City all waiting for the striker’s decision.

Having said that, it will also be interesting to see how Manchester United pursue Karim Adeyemi. Will they attempt to swoop him right under the nose of the Bundesliga giants or settle for someone else?
