Are The Media Trying to Unsettle Arsenal’s Promising Signing or Are The Club Going to Sell Off Another Talent

Kieran Tierney, Tierney Leicester transfer

It’s not unusual for the media to create a story where there wasn’t one, but the rumours concerning the possible transfer of Kieran Tierney to Leicester City is as annoying as it is disturbing.

Arsenal haven’t even had a full season to see his worth because of injury and the pandemic but apparently, they are considering offloading the player without giving him a single season in red and white. This is all so different from the enthusiastic appraisal of Mikel Arteta in May when the Arsenal gaffer told Ian Wright in an interview for Adidas:

“I am really looking forward to working with him and giving him the opportunity to play,”

Before adding:

“His attitude, his commitment, his willingness it’s incredible. I think he’s going to bring something special to us.”

And the mutual appreciation continued when Kieran Tierney, in an interview with Sky Sports earlier this year, said of Arteta:

“In Dubai for the winter break, I was doing some one-to-one work with him, and that’s when I realised ‘this is brilliant’.”

“Just to me like, he knows what’s going to happen in a game and how it’s going to happen. What you should do, where you’re going to get pressed from and where your options should be.”

“You should know where the left mid’s going to be, the centre-mid, so you can just play in sync. Everybody’s one brain and I think that’s perfect.”

What could possibly change then, with things looking so good on both sides?

Well, Journalist Duncan Castles, while speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, appeared to think the move to Leicester City could happen for Kieran Tierney if Ben Chilwell moved to Chelsea. It would be a shock move and another chance for the Scot to link up with his former boss Brendan Rogers but if it does happen, fans will feel that the Arsenal board have once again sold them out, similar to the Allen/Samson situation.

Brendan Rogers would be quite happy to snap up a player who clocked up 127 appearances during his reign north of the border, but how much resistance will Arsenal offer if the right fee comes along from Leicester City. That’s the thing that supporters are now having to contemplate with the knowledge that at Arsenal, money always seems to be the catalyst for a high profile sale.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are sniffing around Saka in the hope that his pen doesn’t work on a contract extension. Clubs abroad and at home are forming an orderly queue for Aubameyang’s services and Lacazette’s position continues to seem unclear.

Arteta has to rebuild over the next two seasons but he has limited funds for his revolution. In short, Arsenal needs to stand firm or once again become known as a selling club.

It seems ridiculous that the club would even consider a deal but these days, nothing is out of the question in North London. Surely, Arteta will repel any suggestion of a move and stand firm against a hierarchy full of inexperienced blaggers and pirates.

Tierney’s move to Leicester City would surely create more animosity between die-hard fans and Wonky Kroenke, who is still more interested in his bastardised rugby teams in the states. Castles makes a good argument for a move by declaring:

“They (Arsenal) do need to make changes to their squad and they need to find revenue to do that.”

“So in normal circumstances you would say there’s no chance of getting a player in from Arsenal who was bought for a substantial fee and was part of the most recent rebuild.”

That rings a bell with supporters who still fear for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. It’s time for this Spaniard to stand his ground because the last one rolled over to have his belly tickled by Raul Sanllehi. A fat lot of good it did him!!

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
