Former Arsenal star Claims That Arsenal Shouldn’t Splash the Cash in January.

Lee Dixon wears a pained expression when talking about Arsenal these days and he stops just short of declaring that Unai Emery has reached the end of his Emirates career.

However, Dixon was adamant that Arsenal shouldn’t be tempted to buy their way out of trouble in January by drafting in reinforcements.

The statements made by Dixon won’t please the majority of Arsenal fans who are begging the club to invest in a robust central defender because the addition of David Luiz has done nothing to steady a fragile defence. If anything it’s worse than ever and Dixon didn’t rule out Emery’s departure by saying,

“This next run of games is crucial for him. If they don’t get points and a place in the top four he is in trouble. I think every manager should get two years to get it right, but I know I am living in a dream world.”

A proper right back during his Arsenal days, Dixon claimed that the club should resist the urge to spend in the upcoming transfer window,

“This is why pressure is on Emery. Can they solve the problems by buying in January? What are the board seeing? They have given him a warning. Personally, if it was my money I would be reluctant to hand it over. To me they are a long way off. Buying players in January would not solve things.”

Contrary to the opinion of Dixon, Arsenal needed to get a central defender prior to the season starting and I’m not talking about William Saliba. They started the season with Bellerin, Holding and Tierney injured and spent £8m on a fading David Luiz. Is it any surprise the defence has been in disarray.

Arsenal need to buy in January, whoever is in charge. The side is dysfunctional but at the back they just haven’t got the right central defensive pairing. Long term, Sokratis, Luiz and Chambers are likely to depart.

The jury is out on Rob Holding’s long term future at the club and if the board haven’t already looked at Saliba’s partner for next season then something’s amiss. Arsenal desperately need a proper and a robust centre back to partner Saliba at the back.

Arsenal face Norwich City away in the Premier League on the upcoming weekend with the Gunners suffering from a very bad form by not winning a single game from the last five premier league matches.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
