United Aim for Hat-trick of Wins | Team News, Injury Updates, and Probable Starting Line-up – Leicester vs Man United

Leicester City vs Manchester United, Man United

The team news from the Manchester United v Leicester City match is here, and Anthony Martial is yet again unavailable for the Red Devils as they try to make it 3 wins in a row. The most recent win at Southampton came in far different circumstances and atmosphere than the Liverpool showdown, but that is what Erik ten Hag will take confidence from as he looks to transform United into a team which do not look devoid of character and passion against the lower teams in the division.

Bruno Fernandes answered his critics with a exquisite finish at St Mary’s. It was the first time the Portuguese scored since May last season. Brendan Rodgers requires a similar response from his players, with the club losing three consecutive fixtures in the Premier League.

The Foxes have lost a number of key players with Wesley Fofana moving to Chelsea recently and too many players have under-performed during the opening weeks of this campaign. Only James Maddison has performed at a high level, and Rodgers will be desperate for the playmaker to return to the squad after a minor muscle injury.

Leicester City head into this fixture on a five-game unbeaten streak against Manchester United, who last defeated Thursday’s hosts in July 2020. Late goals by Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka earned Leicester City a thrilling 4-2 victory that ended Manchester United’s 29-match unbeaten away run while they drew 1-1 at Old Trafford. In the last 20 games, Leicester City have won four while Manchester United have won eleven, and the rest ended in stalemates.

Injury/Suspension List:

Brandon Williams and Facundo Pellistri are unavailable as well due to injury, with Mason Greenwood still being suspended. Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are expected to continue in defence. Victor Lindelöf is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season due to a problem that he picked up in training.

Rodgers would most likely hope for Maddison’s comeback from injury and will start him on the  substitutes’ bench. Wilfred Ndidi will hope to be recalled ahead of Soumare, while Ayoze Perez may be provided with an opportunity down the right-hand side.

With Arsenal to come on Sunday, Ten Hag could take the chance to hand some minutes to Casemiro, who may take the spot of either Scott McTominay or Christian Eriksen. Barring any injury issues, the remainder of the United starting lineup could stay the same, with Cristiano Ronaldo only being selected among the replacements, that is if he is still at the club. Anthony Martial will miss the tie because of an Achilles issue.

Player To Watch Out For- Jamie Vardy

Despite not having the explosive start to the season like he usually does, this fixture is one where he tends to score regularly. Vardy, 35, marked his 10 years at the club in May this year. He has scored 133 Premier League goals in 274 appearances (stats via transfermarkt).

A master of off-the-ball movement, Vardy knows exactly how and when to position himself to score goals. His directness in goal-scoring makes him a useful asset in the box but even at the age of 35, he’s able to provide so much more for his team. His movement and raw running power are obvious physical traits, but his defensive work often goes unnoticed and under-reported.
