Manchester United Can Truly Prosper If This Key Player Fires On All Cylinders

Lukaku is in his second season for United and the Belgian has been the focal point of United’s attack. So, how does he make the Red Devils click?

Manchester United have finally come back to winning ways after ending the undefeated streak of Watford, beating them 2-1 away at Vicarage Road. United, in the last 2 matches against inferior but tough home teams, have shown that zeal and energy which was lacking in the first 3 matches. Jose Mourinho was certainly happy with his side’s performance on Sunday.

”With this win we keep the same points as Spurs and Arsenal. We have that distance of four and six points to the other top teams – if we don’t win this match obviously that distance goes a little more. They are a good team, they know how to create problems to the top teams.

“And I told the players at half-time – sometimes I am sorry we don’t have a camera in the dressing room because I told them what exactly happened – that it could be a match to win four or five nil, or to be in real trouble. In the second half we decreased our intensity, then the goal happened, then the game is open.”

One of the players whom Jose singled out to praise after the Watford game was one of the goal scorers, Romelu Lukaku.

“I am very happy with the points, I’m very happy with the spirit,” Mourinho said. “With something that represents for me the spirit of the team which is Lukaku sliding tackle after 50 metres running back to help the team.

“But I feel a bit frustrated because we had everything in the first-half to kill the game, if we play the second-half the way we did in the last part of the first-half, we would be in this moment a completely different result and without the last 10 minutes.”

That tackle by Lukaku was genuinely an inspiring one for other United players to learn. But not only in this particular match, Lukaku has been the go-to man for Mourinho as he has always shown the passion and dedication as a United player. He probably has been one of the most improved players under Jose at United.

Despite scoring 20 goals and providing 7 assists in just 39 Premier League games in a so-called defensive system, his hold-up play, which was a worry initially but has since improved immensely at United is praise worthy. His first touch has improved, which has led to many attacks being built while he’s on the ball.

After a splended World Cup which saw Belgium secured 3rd place, Lukaku has started the new season rather brightly with an impressive return of 4 goals in 4 starts. Hopefully, his form continues to be as impressive as it was in the World Cup if he makes use of all the chances which are given to him. Because if he fires on all cylinders, only then United will be considered as an attacking unit and not a defensive side under Jose Mourinho.
