Manchester United are eager to do everything in their power to convince Adrien Rabiot to sign for them this summer, according to reports.
Rabiot will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after refusing to sign a new contract with the club. A quality midfielder with a lot of potential at 24 years of age, the Frenchman would be a welcome addition to any squad at a top club. The fact that he is also available on a free transfer simply adds to the mouthwatering prospect of snapping him up.
It is no surprise then, that Rabiot is not short of potential suitors by any means. The likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Tottenham and Liverpool have all put forward their interest and are weighing up moves. Liverpool especially have made it clear that they want to add him to their roster. Rabiot is said to have been a huge fan of Steven Gerrard and the Scousers also boast the title of being Champions League winners at the moment.
United though, are set to flex their financial muscle once more. Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to sign him as part of his ‘rebuilding plans’. An offer of around £170,000 in weekly wages plus a £4.5 million sign-on bonus is said to be on the table. The Frenchman is said to be tempted by the ‘size’ of the package and could move to the club on those terms.
The fact that United will only be participating in the Europa League next season though, gives the player leverage to negotiate a higher deal from the club. It also gives other clubs a possible boost in the race to sign him. It is quite clear to see that United need him a lot more than the other clubs that area in for him as well.

The club are losing Ander Herrera to Rabiot’s present club PSG, and are in need of a replacement. The likes of Fred, Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic will all be competing for two available spots in midfield alongside Paul Pogba. Signing another midfielder would put a dent in their hopes and is likely to see a couple of them leave.
Rabiot also brings with him a lot of unwanted baggage. His attitude has come into question on numerous occasions in the past, and has seen him suspended from PSG. He has not played a game for the French giants since December last year. He has also been away from the International scene since refusing to be on the waiting list for the World Cup. With a lot of United players’ attitudes coming into question after their performances last season, the last thing Solskjaer needs is to add to those worries.
If he manages to keep Rabiot’s temperament in check though, then the Frenchman will undoubtedly be a quality signing for the Red Devils.
