Here is the team news as Manchester United take on Liverpool in the third match of the 2022/23 Premier League.

United will be looking to respond after their back-to-back crushing defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford when they meet Liverpool. Erik ten Hag’s managerial career at Manchester United has started disastrously.

Looking at the head-to-head stats in the Premier League, Manchester United and Liverpool have faced each other 60 times, with United winning 28 and Liverpool winning 18 games.

However, in recent history, the Merseyside team has become a force to be reckoned with as they beat their bitter rivals 5-0 and 4-0 last season home and away. United will be more cautious this time around, especially with two losses on the trot. The Red Devils might field a more defensive side to deal with Liverpool’s counter-attack.

Injury/Suspension List:

As for Man United, Anthony Martial missed last weekend’s match due to a hamstring problem, and remains a doubt for the Liverpool clash. Brandon Williams and Facundo Pellistri are unavailable as well due to injury, with Mason Greenwood still being suspended. Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia are also pushing for spots in the starting line-up after Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw disappointed last time against Brentford.

Liverpool have fears that Thiago could be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury that he picked up at Craven Cottage. He joins Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Caoimhin Kelleher, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate in the infirmary.

Joel Matip was left out of the Palace game after missing training with a groin injury, but on a brighter note, Naby Keita has recovered from illness and was on the bench against Palace. Darwin Nunez is suspended after his red card incident and Roberto Firmino will look to replace him in the starting lineup. Joe Gomez should start alongside Virgil Van Dijk, with Nat Philips moving to the bench.

Manchester United Probable Line-up Vs Liverpool (4-2-3-1):

David De Gea(GK); Diogo Dalot(RB), Raphael Varane(CB), Victor Lindelöf(CB), Tyrell Malacia (LB); Fred(CM), Christian Eriksen(CM); Rashford(RW), Jadon Sancho(LW), Bruno Fernandes(CAM); Cristiano Ronaldo(ST)

Predicted Score: Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool should get the job done against an underwhelming United side. Goals from Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will seal the deal. There will be a few efforts from Manchester United late in the game but Liverpool will hold on. United are expected to play more defensively in this game and hence they are unlikely to lose by a big margin

Jurgen Klopp did not hold back in a scathing assessment of his side’s performance last weekend against Crystal Palace. The age-old question of whether Liverpool would sign a new midfielder inevitably cropped up as Thiago Alcantara entered the treatment room once again.

Neither of the two teams has registered a win this season so far in their two matches. Jurgen Klopp’s men would have to find a way to get all three points as they fear being left far behind in the title race.

Meanwhile, United too would be hoping for a turnaround at Old Trafford. Ten Hag has it all to do at Man United, with the club currently going through a very difficult period. But the last season was so disappointing that surely there will be improvement this term, and with more new signings thought to be imminent, there are reasons to be positive despite their ongoing issues.
