Fred’s Magnificence Helped the Red Devils Clinch a Compelling Victory | Player Ratings From the Man United vs Tottenham Game

A sublime display saw Man United clinch three crucial points at Old Trafford as the Red Devils secured a compelling 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. Dominant for most part of the ninety minutes, Erik Ten Hag’s side ensured they retained control of possession whilst having been solid across all aspects of the game against Spurs.

An intense start to the game saw both sides look for an early goal on Wednesday. Looking to pressurise the home side, visitors side ensured they created several goal-scoring opportunities early in the game, however, failing to find the back of the net before United gradually grew into the game over the course of the first half.

A number of goal-scoring opportunities saw the Red Devils pin back the pressure on Antonio Conte’s men before the break, although both sides failed to find the back of the net before the first half. A palpable start to the second half saw Man United get on the front foot with a deflected strike by Fred as the hosts broke the deadlock against Tottenham.

Struggling to cope with United’s excellent ball retention in key attacking areas and testing their organised defence, Spurs remained second-best on the pitch for most of the half, with Bruno Fernandes having scored the winning goal on the night; helping the Red Devils move within one point of fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of the clash against the Blues at the weekend.

Lisandro Martinez (LCB) – 7/10: Another solid performance saw Martinez remain an imposing figure in defence on Wednesday. Having proven to be excellent on the pitch, the Argentinian centre-back is expected to remain amongst the first names on the team sheet over the coming fixtures.

Luke Shaw (LB) – 6/10: A reliable presence at left-back, Shaw delivered a notable performance against Spurs. Having delivered a series of promising displays, the England international will be keen on gaining consistency on the pitch moving forward.

Midfielders

Casemiro (CDM) – 8/10: Excellent in orchestrating the midfield, Casemiro ensured United remained dominant in transition and ball retention on Wednesday. Having shown gradual improvement in his displays in recent weeks, the midfielder will be keen on remaining consistent on the pitch over the coming weeks.

Fred (CM) – 8/10: Tenacious in his approach, Fred delivered an impactful performance against Spurs. Expected to retain his spot against Chelsea, the Brazilian will be keen on finding consistency in his performances moving forward.
