Manchester United vs Arsenal: Talking Points, Prediction And Key Battles

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester United vs Arsenal, Arsene Wenger farewell, Pogba

Arsenal take on Manchester United this evening at Old Trafford, in what promises to be an explosive encounter for the 15th week fixture of the Premier League.

This is an away game that the Gunners have failed in recent memory to come away with maximum points. Then again, it is a whole new era hence, history may not really count.

It has been a very long time since Arsenal have taken the current form they have to the Theatre of Dreams and what a time to do it. The last time the Londoners won at Old Trafford was back in September of 2006, when Emmanuel Adebayor secured the win for his die in the dying minutes of the game.

This time around, for the first time in over 2 decades, someone else is in charge of the Emirates outfit.

Jose Mourinho and his side are at the exact opposite of the pole based on form at the moment, when compared to Unai Emery and men. This really couldn’t be a better time for the North Londoners to change their fortunes at Old Trafford. That said, there is need for caution as this is the Premier League after all.

Bernd Leno will need to be at his best to keep Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini off the scoreboard, especially from set pieces.

Sokratis Papastathopolus will need to ensure he is alert to Lukaku’s presence all day too, just like he did when he was up against Harry Kane in the derby during the weekend. Lucas Torreira, the Lionheart, will need to keep Paul Pogba very occupied if Emery‘s side are to ensure the Red Devils lack supply from the midfield.

Considering the league top scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be on the pitch, David De Gea will need to be at his very best to minimize the damage he is likely to cause.

The United defence currently have almost 9 players unavailable, hence the likelihood that they will get overun by the visitors is most probable.

Luke Shaw has recently been confirmed to have not made it to Old Trafford due to a recent knock.

Meanwhile, the Arsenal boss has been quite open as regards his preparedness for this stage of the competition and has even given his take on the derby too.

I know how you can feel playing under pressure,” he said [via Arsenal]. “When I was a player, I played a lot of games with this pressure individually and collectively. I know when the players can feel like me in this moment.

That’s why it’s first for me to give them confidence, which you cannot buy in the supermarket! You need to create it every day in the conversations.”

He further added:

You find that [confidence by] working a lot every day and being together, doing positive things, speaking, training, playing.

That’s most important – how you can break that pressure is with confidence. It’s one way to improve, when the players can block these negative pressure.”

I reckon the Gunners will break their Old Trafford duck in this game and go ahead to win 1-3 at the end of the evening.

In other news, Arsenal are yet to know whom exactly they will be playing in the 3rd round of the FA cup. The opponent will be determine on the 11th of December, when Solihull take on Blackpool. The winner will have Arsenal to contend with.

This will be Arsenal’s 20th game in their unbeaten streak, should they avoid defeat
