According to latest reports, Manchester United are open to selling forward Anthony Martial. The Red Devils are looking to bring in a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window and therefore, have decided to transfer list the Frenchman.
Anthony Martial had a catastrophic 2021/22 season with Manchester United and was sent out on loan to Sevilla midway through the season. He failed to impress in Spain too but the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford put a smile on his face.
The 27-year-old started the 2022/23 season well at United, creating hope for many fans. He had a goal involvement every time he stepped onto the pitch for the Red Devils in the initial few games. The Dutch manager even vetoed against selling the forward last summer.

The Frenchman had each and every attribute that the former Ajax manager wanted from a striker and he was also getting the goals to show for it. However, things have not worked out as the forward has failed to make consistent appearances for the club this season because of injuries.
Now, according to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are planning to sell Anthony Martial in the summer window. The French forward will be amongst the players that the club are willing to sell at the end of this season alongside captain Harry Maguire and left-back Alex Telles. Martial’s injury woes have been a serious concern for Ten Hag this season.
The Dutchman has transformed Manchester United ever since he arrived. The former Ajax manager has made sure that he has gotten the best out of every player he has in the squad and that includes the 27-year-old attacker. But, for a club as big as Manchester United, Ten Hag cannot allow players who are on high payrolls to sit out for most of the season.

Martial’s time at United has been a rollercoaster ride. The Frenchman arrived from AS Monaco and many people did not know what to expect from him. However, he was quick to prove his haters wrong by scoring on his debut against Liverpool. He certainly has had his moments at the Theatre of Dreams but it could have been much more if it was not for his recurring injuries.
Should Manchester United Show More Patience With Anthony Martial?
Both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons have probably been Martial’s lowest points in his career. Despite having his career-best figures for a season in 2019-20, he failed to carry the momentum forward into the next campaigns. He kept missing innumerable sitters and clear-cut chances that started costing United points in vital matches.
Not only did he miss good chances in attack but he also provided little to no defensive contribution. The 27-year-old forward barely pressed the opposition and the lethargic body language was clear to any United fan watching the game.
However, the club and the fans still backed him because he had scored 23 goals and 12 assists in the 2019-20 season (stats via Transfermarkt). The bad form in the next campaign was labelled as just a bad phase. However, we never got to see the return of 2019-20 Martial.

The Red Devils saw an opportunity in the 2021/22 campaign and let the Frenchman leave on loan for Sevilla as per his request. He spent six months at the Spanish club but failed to make an impression, scoring just a single goal, in such a short period of time.
Most fans had thought that it was the end of Anthony Martial at Manchester United. The club was certain that they would be undergoing some serious changes in the summer and one of them was deemed as the French striker leaving the club.

Then Erik ten Hag arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2022. It came as a shock when fans saw that Ten Hag wants Martial to continue at the club. He also kept proving his worth whenever called upon by the manager by contributing with a goal or an assist.
However, he has failed to be there for his manager. The 27-year-old has not been able to stay fit for the majority of the season. He has missed key matches in which the manager needed his services. He makes small appearances and then again gets injured. Ten Hag wants someone for the whole season and United might get better options in the transfer window.
