4-2-3-1 With Martinez, Sancho & Malacia – Predicted Line-Up | How Would Man United’s Starting XI Look Like Against Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester United vs Brighton

We have tried to figure out the Manchester United starting line-up as they kick off their 2022/23 Premier League campaign hosting Brighton & Hove Albion. The Red Devils prepare for a new dawn under Erik ten Hag this Sunday.

With the season expected to pose numerous challenges moving forward, United will be keen on maximising their home advantage this weekend, with the new manager likely to expect nothing but three points at Old Trafford.

Having shown promising development throughout pre-season despite the lack of priority incomings hitherto, Ten Hag will be looking to showcase a palatable account of his football philosophy this Sunday.

While much remains to be desired of the current crop of players, the new manager permeates a coveted sense of optimism for the future, with the club expected to undergo a transition year having, hitherto, failed to stamp their authority in the transfer market whilst boasting a majority of players continually failing to deliver consistently on the pitch in recent seasons.

Manchester United Starting Line-Up Against Brighton & Hove Albion

Having primarily deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout pre-season, Ten Hag is expected to stick with the same this Sunday. With United facing a possession-based and fluid side in Brighton, Ten Hag is likely to demand strict discipline of his forwards whilst instructing the midfielders to cut-off passing lanes across the middle-third of the pitch.

United will be hoping to maintain a high-octane press against a technically sound Brighton whilst being keen on retaining the bulk of possession for the majority of the ninety minutes at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper

David De Gea (GK): Showing a desire to adapt to Ten Hag’s requirements, De Gea will be keen on developing his attributes moving into the season. Amongst United’s better performers last season, the Spaniard will be keen on delivering consistent performances moving forward.

Defenders

Diogo Dalot (RB): Amongst United’s notable players in pre-season, Dalot is expected to remain Ten Hag’s first-choice right-back for the foreseeable future. Having shown promising potential, the full-back will be keen on delivering consistent performances this season.

Harry Maguire (RCB): Expected to captain the team this Sunday, Maguire will be hoping to redeem himself this season. Having had a decent pre-season campaign, the centre-back will be looking to continue improving on his performances this season.

Lisandro Martinez (LCB): Deemed fit to start by the manager against Brighton, Martinez is likely to make his debut at Old Trafford this Sunday. Having delivered an excellent account of himself during pre-season, the Argentine will be looking to nail down a starting spot moving forward.

Tyrell Malacia (LB): Amongst United’s promising performers during pre-season, Malacia is likely to have earned himself a starting spot this Sunday. Having shown a palpable desire and application to execute his role efficiently on the pitch, the young Dutchman will be hoping to earn himself a regular spot in the starting XI over the coming weeks.

Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM): With United short on options in this position, McTominay is expected to remain a regular starter for the foreseeable future. Having been utilised in a favourable box-to-box role during pre-season, the Scotsman will be looking to deliver notable and consistent performances moving forward.

Fred (CM): Expected to play a key role under Ten Hag, Fred will be hoping to remain consistent on the pitch this season. Despite exploitable weaknesses in his game, the Brazilian is likely to remain a regular starter, with the manager expected to systematically nullify his weaknesses over the season.

Jadon Sancho (RW): Although having missed United’s last pre-season fixture against Rayo Vallecano, Sancho is expected to slot back into the line-up facing Brighton this Sunday. Having been amongst the most promising performers in pre-season, the winger will be looking to significantly improve the team’s attacking prowess this season.

Bruno Fernandes (CAM): Disciplined in his performances during pre-season, Fernandes is likely to continue undergoing a change in his approach across the attacking third over the coming weeks. Despite having been the focal point of the team’s creativity in recent season, the Portuguese international is expected to be deployed in a relatively distinct role this time around.

Marcus Rashford (LW): Having shown glimpses of improvement in his application during pre-season, Rashford is expected to retain his spot against Brighton this weekend. With much remaining to be desired of the winger, the England international will be keen on returning to his best form over the course of the campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST): Although having had only 45 minutes of competitive football on the pitch during pre-season, Ronaldo is likely to be included in the starting line-up this Sunday. With United short on attacking options, the 37-year-old is likely to remain a starter for the foreseeable future.

Predicted Score:

Manchester United 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion.
