4-2-3-1 With Sancho, Elanga & Rashford | The Season Opener | How Could United Line Up Against Brighton?

Manchester United vs Brighton

The 2022/23 season is upon us. And likewise, we are back with the possible Manchester United line-up to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the first game of the new Premier League season on Saturday.

Manchester United under Erik ten Hag will be looking for an ideal start to the new campaign with a win at home against Brighton. The Seagulls managed to beat the Red Devils 4-0 in the penultimate game of last season which ended up as a disastrous campaign for United.

The match will mark Erik ten Hag’s first competitive fixture in charge of the 20-time English champions, who will be bidding to secure a spot in the top-four this season, having finished down at sixth last term. Brighton, on the other hand, look weaker than last season, having lost talisman Yves Bissouma to Tottenham Hotspur and Marc Cucurella moving to Chelsea.

Manchester United played twice last weekend as they brought their pre-season to a close, losing to Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday before drawing 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday. They will take confidence after beating rivals Liverpool 4-0 and securing wins against Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in pre-season.

Injury/Suspension List:

Brandon Williams has not been involved for the Red Devils during their pre-season preparations due to injury, and the right-back is expected to not be in the squad for the opener even if he recovers from injury. Jadon Sancho was forced to miss out on the friendly against Atletico due to illness, but the England winger is expected to recover in time.

Luke Shaw was not involved in the last two pre-season games due to an illness, but like Sancho, the left-back should recover in time but might start on the bench with Tyrell Malacia starting the game.

Anthony Martial has emerged as a major doubt for United’s Premier League opener against Brighton due to a hamstring problem that he picked up against the last weekend. Mason Greenwood is suspended until further notice from the squad. Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the bench after turning up late for pre-season which makes his fitness not up to matchday standards.

The fight for points begins now as the Premier League commences its new season. New manager Erik ten Hag has had a lot of time to learn about his side during a crucial pre-season.

Brighton are not going to make it easy. Under Graham Potter, the Seagulls have looked accomplished. The side had their highest-ever PL finish last season, coming 9th. Manchester United, on the other hand, have strengthened multiple positions with hopefully Frenkie De Jong to join them soon.
