Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt is one of the hottest young prospects in the world and his former teammate Jesper Olsen believes he would be ‘perfect fit’ at Manchester United.
Despite being just 19 De Ligt has become one of the most sought after player. He has established himself as one of the most promising young centre back in the world. Many of the top clubs interested in signing the young prodigy include Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City apart from the Reds.
Ajax defender and captain, De Ligt has been getting a lot of attention ever since the start of last season, having played 33 games in the Eredivisie for Ajax. He has not just got more game time this season but also become an integral part of their squad in this campaign. In the 2017-18 season, he was handed the captaincy due to injury to the regular captain and became the youngest ever captain of the Ajax side.

For his regular terrific performances, the Dutch sensation was awarded the Golden Boy award, making him the first ever defender to win the coveted award. Earlier this season during Ajax’s Champions League encounter against Real Madrid, De Ligt captained Ajax’s side and became the youngest ever player to captain a side in a Champions League knockout game.
Even for his national side De Ligt has become a regular starter, having already made 17 appearances. At the age of 17, he became Netherlands youngest ever footballer.
“No doubt about it [he could play for United], Playing at Ajax, you have to be a quality player. So, of course, he could. No doubt about it. He could fit into any top team at the moment.”
During the 2018 Europa League Final against Manchester United Jose Mourinho not only praised the young Ajax defender but also mentioned that the Reds fielded with a special plan to stop the Dutch International. Ever since Manchester United hierarchy has had been keenly interested in signing De Ligt.

The fact that Manchester United have been searching for a quality centre back has been no secret. They already have been turned down in their pursuit of top players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld, Milan Skriniar, Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin. But now they are reportedly interested in planning for their future by landing a young prospect that can lead the side for many years to come.
