Erik ten Hag Sets Two Clear Targets, Marks €70m Rated Serie A Star as Alternative if Summer Move for Harry Kane Fails

Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane, Manchester United, striker targets

According to latest reports in England, Manchester United are ready to launch a massive bid in the summer to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen if they fail to land Tottenham’s Harry Kane. The Red Devils have marked the Nigerian as one of the key alternatives for the English striker.

Erik ten Hag is looking to boost his attacking options by bringing in a striker in the upcoming window. The Red Devils have lacked a proper number nine in their squad for some time now and are currently making do with Anthony Martial, who has remained sidelined for majority of the season due to injuries. However, it now seems the Frenchman could be sold to make way for other transfer ins.

Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst arrived in January and has already played more minutes than Martial has this season. Although the Dutchman is providing a reasonable work rate, he is still failing to put the ball into the net, having scored just a solitary goal since his arrival.

According to Sky Sports, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has emerged as a key target for Manchester United to enhance their forward line. The report states that the Red Devils are eyeing a summer move for the Nigerian international if they fail to land Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Manchester United manager has identified two strikers as key targets for the summer window – Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane. The England captain has been one of the top strikers in world football consistently for quite some time now. United have tried to sign him before but have failed, and there is again no certainty over the Englishman’s destination this summer.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen is currently one of the most clinical strikers in Europe and has been instrumental in Napoli’s surprising success this season. The 24-year-old striker is on course to have a personal best season – goals and assists wise.

Now, as reported by the Daily Mail, United are prepared to launch a massive £107m bid to sign Osimhen from the Serie A side. The report states that the striker has a £107m release clause in his contract and the English side are willing to pay it as Ten Hag wants to build a team that can simultaneously challenge in multiple competitions.

Napoli are playing high-quality football this season and many have deemed them as the dark horses in the UEFA Champions League. This has nicely complimented the growth of the 24-year-old Nigerian and a move to a big club is now past overdue for the forward.

Who is the Right Choice for Manchester United: Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane?

Harry Kane tried to force a move to Manchester City in the 2021 summer transfer window. Man United were also reportedly interested in signing the English striker. Unfortunately, Kane ended up staying at Spurs, with very little success. He has proven that he can score consistently, game after game, season after season.

Although the 29-year-old is not among Europe’s top scorers this season, he has still played an influential part for Tottenham. Second only to Erling Haaland (26 goals) in the Premier League, Kane has managed to score 17 goals with a Spurs side that have failed to deliver consistent results this season.

The England international is also one of their best creators. His impeccable passing range and killer instinct to finish chances make him one of the most dangerous strikers in the league. He has the calibre of a player who should be winning trophies almost every season. However, his decision to stay with Spurs has made him suffer in that regard.

However, the best suited striker for Manchester United going forward would be Victor Osimhen over Harry Kane. The Nigerian international has certainly displayed his potential to be a top striker, having scored 19 league goals in 20 appearances.

He’s great in the air, good at link-up play, holds the ball well, wins the physical duels and has the pace to work in tandem with Marcus Rashford and other attacking talents at the Theatre of Dreams. Moreover, with Osimhen being only 24-years-old, Ten Hag will have the time to mould him into his system, which may not be possible for the 29-year-old English striker.

The Nigerian striker will also put in the work rate that the manager wants, and create pressure on the defenders, suited for Ten Hag’s system. Both Osimhen and Kane are going to cost a fortune for Manchester United, but that shouldn’t be a problem considering the takeover situation at the club.
