Manchester United Eyeing €17m Rated Premier League Midfielder | The Perfect Partner for Casemiro

Tyler Adams, Manchester United

According to reports, Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams. Manager Ten Hag is looking to strengthen his midfield and has shortlisted the USA international as a potential option.

Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic departed the club in the summer after running down their contracts. The Red Devils strengthened their midfield by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid in a bid to finally solve their problems in defensive midfield.

United paid the Spanish giants £70m to sign the Brazillian midfielder on a five-year contract. Some fans were worried that the transfer fee may have been too much for a player who is already 30-years-old. However, he has so far proven his worth.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Tyler Adams of Leeds United. Erik ten Hag has a keen interest in the 23-year-old and has asked the officials at the club to monitor the player. Moreover, the Dutchman has been tracking the midfielder since his RB Leipzig days.

Tyler Adams was linked with Manchester United heavily during the tenure of former manager Ralf Rangnick, as at the time he was playing for RB Leipzig and was signed by the German while he was in charge of the team’s transfer strategy. He has since made a move to the Premier League and has continued to impress for Jesse Marsch’s side even if the team as a whole is struggling to win.

Player Profile

Tyler Adams made the move to Leeds United in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old central midfielder has been a regular at Elland Road, missing just one Premier League game so far.

At such a young age, The American already has more than 170 senior appearances at the club level (stats via transfermarkt). For someone still at the beginning of his career, he possesses a mature sense of understanding and play.

His versatility allows him to function in an efficient manner all around the centre-half. Name a position in midfield and Adams probably plays it – defensive/central midfielder, right midfielder, box-to-box, even right-back and wing-back; he can cover it all, even on the left wing.

Defensively, the 23-year-old is not the strongest opponent one can face – as he stands at just 5’8” without a body of a hunk. But, his tactical understanding to break up passing lines and intercept offensive plays makes him a fantastic asset.

He can be a defender who is capable of initiating counter-attacks with just a single pass or hold-up play. He once described himself as the “engine of the team” and that is precisely what the player looks to serve as, with his energetic offensive-mindedness and resilient defensive skills. Tyler Adams possesses a strong work ethic and is known for his professionalism among his teammates.

Verdict

With his continued hard work and hunger to develop further, the American international will undoubtedly attract the interest from some of Europe’s top teams in the coming years, as he continues his role as an anchor in the midfield.

His displays in a struggling Leeds side appear to be catching the eye of Old Trafford officials, and it looks as if a future Old Trafford move could be on the cards. Given the American has just moved, it seems unlikely that United would be able to price him away from Leeds, especially given the historic rivalry between the two clubs.

Tyler Adams would be a fine deputy to Casemiro, allowing Manchester United to manage the Brazilian’s career on their terms as he heads towards his twilight years. And given the American is just 23-years-old, he could either become the long-term option in midfield in the future or be replaced further down the line, in case he doesn’t work out for United.
