Manchester United Seriously Monitoring €50 Million Rated La Liga Forward

Arnaut Danjuma, Manchester United

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are keeping an eye on Villarreal centre-forward Arnaut Danjuma. The Red Devils are looking to bring in one forward in the summer and have identified the Dutchman as a potential target.

The 25-year-old was named the Man of the Match when the Spanish side travelled to Old Trafford for a Champions League group stage fixture this season. Danjuma was a nightmare for the United defenders throughout the match. However, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who stole the spotlight by scoring a late winner.

Manchester United had previously considered signing Arnaut Danjuma a year ago, who played for Bournemouth at the time. But, the Red Devils went with a bigger name in Jadon Sancho for £73million. Meanwhile, Villarreal signed the Dutch forward for €25 million.

However, many of the United forwards like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have underperformed. Whereas Edinson Cavani suffered frequent injuries this season, and Sancho’s slow start did not help either. Moreover, the club have decided to let go of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata who have been peripheral members in the United squad.

Manchester United are currently monitoring Arnaut Danjuma as they still admire his qualities. The forward has a €45million release clause in his contract. Nevertheless, there is very little chance of the deal happening as the English side are already stacked on the left wing. Alejandro Garnacho is the latest prospect to come out of the United academy who plays on the left-wing.

Why Are Manchester United Still Monitoring Danjuma?

Villarreal reached the semi-finals of the Champions League this season and Danjuma played an important role in that journey. The Spanish outfit beat Juventus and Bayern Munich to finally meet Liverpool in the semi-finals where they had to bow out to the seasoned English competitor.

The Dutchman scored 6 goals and registered 1 assist in the Champions League this season(stats via Transfermarkt). Unfortunately, he missed the second leg against Liverpool due to a muscular problem. The Spanish side had good chances of going through.

The 25-year-old has scored 16 goals along with 4 assists across all competitions this season, finishing as Villarreal’s top goal scorer. However, the match against the Red Devils was probably the highlight that many fans picked up. United full-backs had no answers whatsoever to Danjuma’s trickery. He would create a chance out of nowhere on the wings.

He frequently got past Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles on the wings, which has become a common way for Villarreal to attack. Such directness from a winger is probably what United want in their squad. Rashford has the ability to get past defenders but his poor form kept him out of the team under Rangnick.

Should United Push To Sign Danjuma From Villarreal?

Arnaut Danjuma is being monitored by multiple top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool. It will be even riskier if United lose out to a rival club. However, there are other key positions United should think about strengthening right now before signing a forward. The Red Devils are going to rebuild again and improving the defence should be their first priority.

United have leaked goals from every direction this season and that has majorly compromised this campaign. Rather the club could use a serious defensive midfielder who can start every game. The absence of a defensive midfielder was clearly visible as they did not have any control over their opponents and the midfield disappeared at times.

Moreover, it is also sensible for United to trust their players as they will be playing in a new system and with a new manager. Garnacho has also shown a lot of promise and may as well contribute to the senior side a lot more next season. If at all United does sign a forward, then that must be a right-winger. The side have very few quality wingers who prefer playing on the right than on the left.

Signing the Dutchman will only lead to more players on the bench, leading to discontent among players regarding game-time and the club will suffer again because of poor recruitment. He is also capable of playing as a centre-forward, but United are considering other options in that role. If Erik ten Hag does have a plan where he includes Danjuma to play centrally, then only it will make perfect sense for United to go ahead with the signing.
