Here are the Manchester United player ratings from their unsatisfactory 2-2 draw against Leeds United in the mid-week Premier League fixture.
Despite a competitive second-half display, a lack of composure saw the Red Devils only manage to secure a draw against Leeds on Wednesday, as Erik ten Hag’s men continue aiming to strengthen their position in the top-four. With the fixture schedule set to get increasingly demanding over the coming weeks, United will be keen on gaining maximum points moving forward.
Struggling to cope with Leeds’ intensity and counter-press from the first whistle, the Red Devils failed to retain control of the game for a major part of the first half. Following a lapse in possession from the home side, the visitors ensured they struck first through Wilfried Gnonto’s precise shot beating David de Gea at the near post from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Although Manchester United gradually grew into the first half, missed opportunities in front of the Leeds goal combined with a lack of control in midfield saw Erik ten Hag’s side head into the break with a one-goal deficit at the Old Trafford.
Similar to the start in the first half, United, once again, struggled to cope with the visitors’ intensity when the second half kicked off. Failing to keep up with the Whites’ fluid attacking transitions, the Red Devils conceded their second goal three minutes into the half after a low-cross deflected off Raphael Varane’s boot to find its way into the back of the net.
Needing to regain control of the game, a power-packed comeback from the hosts saw them level the score through Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in the 62nd and 70th minute respectively as the Red Devils poised themselves for a winning goal over the remainder of the twenty minutes of the game.
However, with Leeds United succeeding in retaining a semblance of control, Manchester United eventually failed to find the winner at the Theatre of Dreams.
