Despite the need for thee points, the hosts struggled to stamp their authority over the ninety minutes, eventually failing to secure a victory against the Foxes at Old Trafford.

A sombre start to the game saw both sides struggle to penetrate the defensive lines throughout the first half on Saturday. The Red Devils, however, delivered an instant response after Kasper Schmeichel’s unforced error resulted in an easy tap-in finish for Fred, three minutes after the opening goal. Both teams, nevertheless, struggled to find the winner for the remainder of the game, with Leicester having led the hosts again, only for their goal to be disallowed by VAR.

With United keen on top-four despite their dwindling form, it remains to be seen if Ralf Rangnick succeeds in extracting crucial points until the end campaign. For now, however, the future remains bleak for United as they continually fail to rectify their errors and leave their best on the pitch ahead of a testing set of fixtures until the end of the season.

Starting XI

David De Gea (GK) – 6/10: A couple of crucial saves saw David De Gea emerge unscathed from the game against Leicester on Saturday. Although having kept only one clean sheet in his last five league outings, the Spaniard’s contributions remain pivotal to United’s chances of securing top-four at the end of the campaign.

Diogo Dalot (RB) – 5/10: Having deployed in a relatively defensive role, Dalot delivered an average performance against the Foxes. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka unlikely to regain his spot anytime soon, the Portuguese full-back will be keen on improving and delivering better performances over the remainder of the season.

Raphael Varane (LCB) – 5/10: A comparably inconsistent performance saw Varane struggle to establish himself as a commanding presence throughout the ninety minutes. However, having just recovered from a minor foot injury, the Frenchman is likely to return to his best form over the coming weeks.

Harry Maguire (RCB) – 5/10: A relatively average performance saw Harry Maguire succeed in avoiding costly errors against his former side at Old Trafford. While yet to justify and, arguably, earn his place in the starting line-up, the centre-back is expected to remain amongst the first names on the team sheet over the coming fixtures.

Luke Shaw (LB) – 5/10: Before being substituted at half-time, Shaw remained amongst the unnoticeable Manchester United players on the pitch against Leicester at Old Trafford. Having seemingly sustained an injury, it remains to the seen if the full-back retains his place in the starting line-up next weekend.

Scott McTominay (CDM) – 4/10: Unintelligent in his movement and positioning, McTominay struggled to gain control of the midfield on Saturday. Having failed to justify his place in the starting line-up, the Scotsman will be hoping to redeem himself over the remainder of the season.

Fred (CM) – 6/10: Having registered his name on the scoresheet, Fred emerged amongst United’s better players on Saturday. Although yet to deliver consistent performances, the Brazilian will be keen on keeping up the good form moving forward.

Paul Pogba (CAM) – 4/10: Having failed to make an impact, Pogba struggled to impose himself on the opposition. Enduring an inconsistent run of form in recent fixtures, the Frenchman will be keen on improving his displays over the coming weeks, especially if he wants to leave United and join a big club next summer.

Jadon Sancho (LW) – 4/10: Despite being amongst the team’s better players in recent weeks, Sancho failed to deliver a compelling performance against the Foxes. Possibly a victim of the team’s inconsistency on the pitch, the youngster will be keen on improving his performance over the coming weeks.

Anthony Elanga (RW) – 5/10: Unimpactful across the ninety minutes, Elanga struggled to unsettle the Leicester backline on Saturday. Having failed to make the most of his opportunity, it remains to be seen if the youngster retains his place in the starting line-up next season.

Bruno Fernandes (ST) – 4/10: Amongst the most unimpressive players on the field against Leicester, Fernandes, once again, failed to deliver a disciplined performance on Saturday. Despite being the team’s most impactful player since his arrival at the club, Fernandes’ consistency remains questionable, although the midfielder will be keen on improving his overall contributions over the coming weeks.

Substitutes

Alex Telles (LB) – 5/10: Having replaced Luke Shaw at half-time, Telles failed to make an impact on the pitch on Saturday. However, likely to be given a handful of opportunities over the coming weeks, the Brazilian will be keen on delivering impactful performances.

Marcus Rashford (ST) – 4/10: Struggling for form, Rashford, once again, failed to deliver a promising display at Old Trafford. Having failed to contribute to the team’s prospects over a large part of the ongoing campaign, it remains to be seen if the winger redeems himself over the coming weeks.
