Manchester United Make Final Decision Over Move For £28m Rated Long Term Defensive Transfer Target

Kieran Trippier, United, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal

Manchester United have passed the final verdict on their interest to sign English right-back, Kieran Trippier, this summer. Despite having strong links with the player and initial interests dating back to January, the club have finally decided to pull the plug on the move.

Ole has reportedly had a strong desire to sign a new right-back this summer, to provide competition for AWB, but Diogo Dalot’s recent upsurges in performances has made him to put his faith on the young Portuguese instead of chasing another defensive addition this summer.

United currently have trouble on the right flank, with AWB failing to deliver while going up front despite playing good defensively.

As reported earlier, Ole is looking to secure a new player to provide some cover and competition for AWB, and Trippier who has been in wonderful form the past season winning the league with Atletico is the primary target.

The player has only two years remaining in his contract and been looking for a return back to England to play in the Premier League.

The Red Devils placed several bids this summer for Trippier in hopes of securing him, all of which had fallen short of Atletico’s valuation of the player but now, Diogo Dalot’s rise in form has convinced Ole not to look any further for new signings.

Dalot is back at Old Trafford from his loan spell at AC Milan, where he broke into the first team, scored two goals, and bagged three assists last season. He also played for Portugal in the Euro Championship and most recently scored against Everton in a 4-0 victory during a preseason friendly.

Via reports in English outlet, The Mirror, news about Man Utd’s final decision on a transfer move for the English Right back has emerged. The report stated that Solskjaer has decided not to put forward a new bid for the English right-back, as Dalot’s re-emergence in performances has led him to believe that his present squad has the necessary depth required for the position.

Earlier, AC Milan were initially interested in signing Dalot back for a loan, which made his future at Old Trafford uncertain, but now it looks like he is certain to stay at the club as Milan are said to be unable to put forward a bid for a permanent move, instead preferring to work with another loan bid this summer.

A report in AS has stated that that Dalot’s impressive pre-season run, and Atlètico’s apparent refusal to accept anything less than €60 million (£51m) have played the key factors in the transfer breakdown with Atletico said to have said no a 1000 times to the english clubs this summer. United had their initial £10m bid rejected by the Los Rojiblancos as they placed a £51m price tag on the player and were not keen on budging from it.

The report further states that – ‘Time and again Atlético’s response has been the same: no. Time and again at Atlético they explained that Trippier is not for sale and that he is an important player for the league champions’

‘It seems difficult that any club is going to pay that amount for a 30-year-old right-back (he will turn 31 in September).

‘At 30 years old, he has two more seasons under contract with Atlético.

‘It would have finished next season, but he has a clause whereby if he reached 20 games he would renew for one more year.

‘Atlético have said no to the English suitors a thousand times.’

Do United even need to make a move for Kieran Trippier :

While Trippier’s arrival would certainly bring improvements in various areas of the field, it doesn’t seem like a wise move even on financial terms. The club would have to splurge an unrealistic amount of money on a 30-year-old right-back past his prime age.

Ole has already spent over £100m this summer transfer and is still looking to spend more on a new central midfielder. So, spending big on Trippier when he already has Dalot at his disposal does not look like a right move.

Dalot has all the skillset to provide cover for AWB’s weaknesses while going up front. Though he may lack in experience as compared to Trippier, he is still very young and can grow well under the right guidance. The Portuguese international can play exceptionally well on both flanks at the back and even as a wing back. Dalot provides better attacking threat while up front, as compared to AWB, and he would give Ole more options to try out different styles of play.
