Could Mauricio Pochettino be the Revitalist That United Have Been Craving For?

Mauricio Pochettino Manchester United

Manchester United have a keen interest in landing Mauricio Pochettino as the next manager on a permanent basis. The Argentine is one of the prime contenders for the top job at Old Trafford since the club decided to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

An undermining performance against Watford ended the Norwegian’s managerial stint at the Theatre of Dreams. The Red Devils came out with a 1-4 defeat at the Vicarage Road against a relegation battling team.

Previously, Manchester United’s 5-0 mauling at the hands of Liverpool left Solskjaer on the brink of losing his job. The following week, Solskjaer went on to defeat Tottenham to extend his time at the club, but then, two successive defeats in the Premier League, including a 2-0 home defeat saw his time as manager come to an end.

While Michael Carrick will handle the procedures for the time being, the Manchester giants are looking for an interim manager before a permanent appointment is made for the rest of the season. However, according to a report from Manchester Evening News (via Mirror), the club looks fairly confident on bringing Argentinian manager, Mauricio Pochettino as the next manager, earlier than they had intended to.

The report also claimed that Paris Saint-Germain is demanding £10m in compensation for Pochettino to take the job immediately. It is also understood that Manchester United paid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer £7.75m in compensation. Hence, the appointment could cost nearly £18m for the club. If the previously mentioned amount is paid for the compensation, Pochettino could be relieved of his duties in the mid-season.

This is exciting news for the Red Devils, as Pochettino is clearly a skilled and experienced manager capable of creating a title winning side. The Argentinian has proved himself worthy at the top especially with his success at PSG, where they sit on top of the league despite criticism.

Finding the next revivalist

Mauricio Pochettino will be in Manchester for the Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday. The former Argentina World Cup star Pochettino is believed to have gassed out managing big stars with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi. PSG are currently sitting on the top of the table in Ligue 1 with eleven points clear of OGC Nice.

The job at stake since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson has only met with failures. David Moyes came in to fill the big shoes left by SAF after taking Everton to new heights as he is currently doing it with West Ham. Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and the last by Solskjaer. Although the previous managers haven’t been able to give the glory days back to the club, only Solskjaer came close to giving the best league finish last season at second place.

Manchester United need a revival from their upcoming losses, they need a manager who can steer a misrouted ship back on its way. Hiring Pochettino as the next manager could mean hiring  an extravagant boss who uses his academy graduates, fresh talent, and also has experience managing big stars.
