Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, as per latest reports. The Red Devils are looking to bring in some competition for David de Gea and have identified the Greece international as a potential target.
Benfica currently sit at the top of the league table in the Primeira Liga with an eight point lead over second-placed FC Porto and Vlachodimos has played a big hand in that. The shot-stopper has put in very impressive performances for the club, having acquired 14 clean sheets in 22 league games so far this season.

The 28-year-old has reportedly signed a new long-term contract with the Portuguese club recently. The new deal sees the keeper staying at the club until 2027, but this isn’t putting off the suitors who are still considering a move for the Greek international.
According to journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos (via Football-Talk), Manchester United are tracking Odysseas Vlachodimos and could make a move in the upcoming transfer window. The Greek reporter stated the keeper’s contract extension doesn’t matter much as a move could still take place in the summer.
However, the Red Devils are not alone in the race for the Greek shot-stopper as multiple European clubs are said to be interested in the player’s services. Leicester City were very keen on signing Vlachodimos last summer, as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel.

While David de Gea has been the primary goalkeeper at Manchester United for over a decade, there are concerns about his ball-playing ability, and Odysseas Vlachodimos could be seen as a potential replacement. While Transfermarkt currently values him at £14 million, the Red Devils would have to pay much more due to his fresh contract and standout displays.
