Manchester United Close to Agreeing a Mammoth Contract Renewal Agreement With Paul Pogba

Pogba, United, PSG new contract, Manchester City, Paul Pogba

According to Italian journalist Rudi Galetti, Paul Pogba is very close to signing a new contract at Manchester United. The Red Devils are preparing an astounding €22 million per season contract for the French midfielder. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been reiterating the whole summer of his plan to retain the core of last season’s squad.

Ever since the end of the 20/21 season, there has been a huge debate about Paul Pogba’s future, whether he will leave the club or extend his contract. The Frenchman’s current contract runs out in June 2022 and the United have been trying to renew his contract since last month. Numerous rumours were linking him to PSG and Real Madrid as well as a return to Juventus.

Though his performances for the French national team have been stupendous, his club performances have been on and off, mainly because of injuries. However, he was excellent in most of the games he played last season and helped the Red Devils to a second-place finish despite missing 14 games due to injury. We have seen a bit of resurgence lately of the Pogba of 2016 when he formed a formidable partnership with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and others.

Now that Pogba is back in good form, coming off with a great performance at the Euro 2020, Ole will be keen to have him in his plans for the next season. His presence in midfield has provided a bit more freedom for Bruno to operate high up the pitch last season and everyone witnessed a new partnership bloom.

With the likes of Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata getting older, Ole will want him to be the one to drive this team forward with his expertise in the midfield area. His attacking prowess will also be very helpful for youngsters like Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho to thrive.

United are already in the market for a defensive midfielder and losing a midfielder of Pogba’s calibre will not do any good for the squad. Moreover, bringing in a competent DM to be the midfield pivot will also aid Pogba to move freely across the pitch. Lesser the defensive responsibilities, the more the possibility for Pogba to thrive, similar to what happens for France with Kante carrying the defensive load.

Furthermore, the Red Devils have not yet received any transfer offer for Pogba, especially not the price that United value him at. This has simplified the situation for United and prompted them to offer Pogba a new and improved contract that will make him the joint top earner at the club alongside De Gea.

With the Frenchman’s contract up in a year, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract deal in January, Ole certainly cannot afford to lose a midfielder for free, especially now that he has managed to build a competitive squad. The midfield is already a weak spot for the Red Devils and Pogba leaving will be catastrophic for the team.

It will be very difficult to find a competent midfielder in this transfer market because many big clubs are looking to revamp their squad in the summer. The competition will be immense and to replace a player of Paul Pogba’s quality will be even more difficult.

This might also be a probable reason why United are offering Pogba an improved contract. The club is preparing itself for an exciting future with all the new signings and securing Paul Pogba’s future is a great step forward in the process.
