According to ESPN, Manchester United are interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and will try to bring the Spaniard to Old Trafford once the summer transfer window opens.
It is no secret that Manchester United need to rebuild the squad that has faced a frustrating and disappointing season so far despite massive upliftments in the middle.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as the club’s interim manager brought a lot of joy initially, but after the high of the Champions League comeback against PSG, United have been handed a reality check in recent weeks.
The Red Devils’ FA Cup exit and the recent bump on their road to a 4th place finish at the hands of newly promoted Wolverhampton have once again exposed the weaknesses in United’s squad.
The football United have played under Solskjaer has been very promising and exciting, though. What United need now are some reinforcements to bolster their squad and provide some much-needed depth, so that the manager has more options to choose from.
Now that Solskjaer has been appointed as the permanent manager of the club, the Norwegian will surely look to bring in new players who will suit his system, and complement the style of the already existing players.
The former United striker has made it clear that he wants to build his team around the likes of Paul Pogba, and according to reports from ESPN, Saul Niguez is seen a the perfect fit to partner the French international in United’s midfield.

Earlier in the season, Manchester City were linked with a move for Saul Niguez but now reports claim that the Blues of Manchester have decided to try and bring in Rodri Hernandez, Saul’s Atletico Madrid teammate, as Pep Guardiola see the latter as a better option to replace Fernandinho in the long term.
The Reds of Manchester, on the other hand, are believed to have monitored Saul Niguez s development since his loan spell at Rayo Vallecano in the 2013-14 season.
Manchester United join the race for Saul with Manchester City identifying Rodri as the perfect alternative.

Atletico will ask for €150 million, the Spanish international’s release clause, and if United want the services of the 24-year-old, they might have to meet it.
Los Rojiblancos have already lost their prized defender Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich for a fee of 80 million. Adding to that are the possible departures of Godin, Griezmann, Rodri and it seems Athleti have a massive set of rebuilding to do during the summer.

Neither of those players are going to come cheap and Lucas Hernandez’s deal as already set a tone to the festivities ahead. Manchester will need to shell out the big bucks in order to secure their primary targets and securing the services of Saul Niguez is a worthwhile investment to say the least. Imagining the possibility of fielding a midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Saul Niguez and Paul Pogba out there should be motivation enough for the decision makers to make it possible.
With reports suggesting that Ander Herrera might move to PSG for a more lucrative deal, and Juan Mata being linked to Barcelona after the Spanish duo’s contracts expire, Manchester United might be forced to splash the cash this summer to fill ranks that will be left by the two long serving Spaniards.
