Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has long been a target for Manchester United and the club have reportedly rekindled its long-standing interest in the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window. As per the latest reports, the Red Devils have submitted an initial bid for the Serbian international.
United have been linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic in almost every transfer window for some time now. United tried to sign the midfielder in 2019, but the deal went cold as the Italian club rebuffed the move.
Now, according to La Reppublica (via MEN), Lazio have received an offer from Manchester United for their star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. United have tabled a bid of €55m to sign 27-year-old this summer.
However, the offer might be considered insufficient as the Biancocelesti are seeking a much higher fee for Milinkovic-Savic, who is one of Serie A’s finest midfielders. United’s offer isn’t enough to convince Lazio to sell their star player. The report claims that further meetings are scheduled to discuss a potential transfer.
Lazio’s club president, Claudio Lotito, considers the bid too low and wants around €80 million which he thinks is much more suitable for the player. Meanwhile, Mateja Kezman, the player’s agent, believes that an offer in the region of €65-70 million will be enough to strike a deal.

Speaking to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Milinkovic-Savic’s agent underlined the midfielder’s situation:
“For now, I have talked about it with PSG and Manchester United, now he is focused on the season finale with Lazio, but the player wishes to go to Manchester.”
The midfielder who is out of contract in around 12 months and is looking for a new challenge, a future away from Rome and possibly out of Italy, with the player preferring a move to Manchester. The Serie A club are looking for a more convincing offer as they don’t want to lose the Serbian, especially when he is a favourite of both coach Maurizio Sarri and club president Lotito.

He has amassed 11 goals and the same number of assists in 37 games (stats via Transfermarkt) in Serie A this season.
Adding to this, Erik ten Hag is also on the hunt for new signings with midfielders being one such priority. To fill in the vacuum created by United’s current crop who are on course to leave the club including Pogba & Matic, the Dutchman will be certain to bring someone who can slot in and take control in the middle of the park.
