Manchester United’s Summer Overhaul; Van de Beek, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard all Involved

The Red Devils are targeting multiple reinforcements this summer for next season’s title challenge. As a result, some of the players are set to face heavy competition for their roles while some others are possibly set for an exit from Manchester United.

The players that have come under spotlight are Donny Van de Beek and Anthony Martial after reports from ESPN revealed that upon enquiry from the players’ agents, the club replied by saying that ‘every player has a realistic valuation’.

Donny Van de Beek’s season fell far below expectations as the Dutch midfielder failed to make any impact and to be honest, was hardly afforded much chance to do so. He had 19 appearances in the whole season, starting only four times which included 1 goal and 1 assist. Ole did try integrating him in to the squad but sometimes, but he had to go with the already established players in the midfield with Paul Pogba, Fred, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes all making a better case than the dutchman. The player also took a lot of time to get accustomed to the club and it is safe to say that he still has not jelled in completely with his new teammates.

Uncertainty about his future has also seen recent reports linking Van De Beek with a transfer to Arsenal with the Gunners said to be interested in the player. There also has been some talk of Everton’s reported interest in the player. Even if any club is open to meeting the ‘realistic valuation’ of United, it will not be anywhere close to what they spent (£35 million) for him.

Given his age and past repute with Ajax, there will be suitors for him. The ESPN report also reveals that the player is ready to fight for a first team spot, but Manchester United might be willing to sell him for a reasonable price to help the club balance the sheets.

Anthony Martial’s case is a bit different as it has surfaced out of nowhere and not many clubs have showed interest in him during the past few seasons. It remains to be seen, which are the interested clubs in him this summer if United open the doors for him. If he stays, he will be facing competition from the likes of Jadon Sancho, as the transfer from Borussia Dortmund seems to be on its last legs.

Cavani has also emerged as an important player for United and his position will be unchallenged, this adds to the dilemma of Martial’s playing time. The French international has only played 22 times in the league scoring 4 and assisting 6 goals; well below his past performances for the club. Ever since his knee injury in March he hasn’t played a game for United and consequently has been left out from the French squad for the Euros.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has come out stating that he wishes to keep the core of his squad intact for the next season, however even then there are doubts looming over Anthony Martial. An exit from United might not be the most desirable situation for Martial but circumstances at the club might force it to happen. Wherever he goes, I believe he is still likely to command a hefty fee, specially if there is any interest from a pPremier League club.

Regarding Jesse Lingard, there is no clarity yet and the club might still take some time to decide his future. His performances during second half of the season have raised his market value substantially and his United exit depends on whether Ole still wants him.

Lingard seemed close to securing a permanent transfer to Upton Park, however recent reports have emerged, suggesting that West Ham have fallen short of United’s expected transfer fee and consequently, United have backed out from the deal. The reports also states that the club is all set to give the player a new three year contract which will see him earn £130k. But this might depend on the Jadon Sancho deal and any decision will only be taken after that.

Past season’s loaned players like Diego Dalot and Andreas Pereira are also expected to exit Manchester United on loans this season too. Additionally, there is curiosity around Amad Diallo, whether Ole has any plans for him in the first team but, the club is yet to take a decision on him and other young players like Shola Shoretire, Anthony Elanga etc. Sources at ESPN also say that Axel Tuanzebe is looking for a loan spell, with some premier league clubs on the lookout and an United exit on loan looks likely.
