Man United Interested in Signing €25m Rated Bundesliga Striker, Talks Already in Progress

Sasa Kalajdzic, Manchester United

According to reports in Germany, Manchester United have expressed interest in VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic regarding a move in this summer transfer window. The new United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to bring a young, versatile forward into his ranks, especially after the uncertainty about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club.

The Austrian international has been linked multiple times with German side Bayern Munich in the past seasons. He has been touted as a replacement for their star striker Robert Lewandowski, but the move never materialised.

Nevertheless, the Bundesliga giants are now expected to join the race for the striker, as Barcelona have secured the signing of the Polish striker. Meanwhile, Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund have signed Sebastian Haller from Ajax to replace Erling Haaland in the attack, which puts further emphasis on signing a centre-forward.

According to Sky Germany (via Metro), Manchester United have shortlisted Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic as a potential summer target. The Red Devils have reportedly begun talks with the midfielder’s representatives regarding a summer move to Old Trafford.

Player Profile

The United board is keen on the player after he scored six goals in fifteen games in the recently concluded Bundesliga season (stats via transfermarkt). He has a scoring tally of 23 goals in the last two seasons (stats via transfermarkt) and is developing into a quality striker. With the accolade of having the most goals as a newly-promoted striker since, Sasa Kalajdzic could truly be a bargain pick for Manchester United, which will simultaneously allow them to use the transfer budget for strengthening other areas of the squad.

In 2020/21, The 25-year-old started to make a name for himself, hitting the back of the net seventeen times in thirty-six appearances. This was the year when clubs like Bayern and United really began to take notice of the forward.

Sasa Kalajdzic is the tallest player in the Bundesliga, using every inch of his imposing stature to become one of just 3 forwards in last season’s top-flight to win over 100 aerial duels. Besides contesting these duels, Kalajdzic is also an excellent threat from aerial crosses delivered into the box. With 8 headed goals, Kalajdzic was the target man for Stuttgart midfielders, topping the Bundesliga aerial contribution stats.

The biggest obstacle preventing the deal is Kalajdzic’s injury history. The Austrian forward missed 17 Bundesliga matches in the 2021/22 season with a shoulder injury, and has previously been sidelined on 4 separate occasions with a long-term injury.

Verdict

United have made three signings so far this summer, with Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez almost confirmed to play at Old Trafford next season. Ten Hag mentioned recently about the transfers which the Red Devils are working on:-

“We want to have the right players, We have a really good squad, we are working on to develop our way of playing and if the opportunity is there we will strike [to sign new players]. I said already definitely we are searching for players in midfield and I think that we have a need in offence. We are still working for players.”

Kalajdzic is a towering striker, standing at six foot seven inches. The Austrian forward could be an ideal candidate for the Premier League. With Cristiano Ronaldo almost towards the fag end of his career, signing a younger striker to rival the Portuguese international would be a smart move.
