It was Cristiano Ronaldo who reigned supreme on a blissful Saturday evening at Old Trafford. An incredulous hat-trick by Ronaldo sealed a crucial victory as the Red Devils moved to fourth in the table for a day. They currently stand fifth after Arsenal pipped them to the fourth position following their home victory against Leicester on Sunday.

Following an even start to the Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur game, a whistling strike from outside the box saw Ronaldo break the deadlock. Spurs, however, remained resilient in their effort, with Harry Kane converting a crucial penalty for the equaliser. Following a well-timed run, a perfectly weighted cross by Jadon Sancho ensured Ronaldo thrust United into the lead before half-time.

With both teams looking for a goal in the second half, an unfortunate error by Harry Maguire resulted in a Spurs equaliser. However, it was Ronaldo’s muscular header late into the half that sealed a well-deserved hat-trick and three points for the Red Devils on Saturday.

With a crucial Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid awaiting them on Tuesday, United will be keen on taking the momentum into Europe. Diogo Dalot (RB) – 6/10: Dalot slotted back into the starting line-up following a brief period on the bench. He contributed to United’s relatively improved balance across the backline. Although having produced a negligible impact in the final third, Diogo Dalot provided reliable support on the flank for most of the ninety minutes.

Raphael Varane (RCB) – 7/10: He was a rock at the heart of United’s defence. His commanding presence in the backline ensured the Red Devils remained relatively solid in defence in periods on Saturday.

Harry Maguire (LCB) – 6/10: Although having scored an unfortunate own goal, Maguire delivered a decent performance against Spurs. However, he is yet to regain the trust of a majority of the fan base. Maguire will be hoping to find form and redeem himself over the coming weeks.

Alex Telles (LB) – 8/10: Telles was an energetic presence down the flank throughout the ninety minutes. He delivered a compelling performance on Saturday. Having recorded a crucial assist, the Brazilian is likely to retain his spot at left-back for a crucial set of upcoming fixtures.

Nemanja Matic (CDM) – 7/10: He efficiently conducted United’s midfield against Spurs. Matic ensured the Red Devils remained effective in possession on Saturday. With Scott McTominay’s availability uncertain, it remains to be seen if the Serbian retains his spot against Atletico on Tuesday.

Fred (CM) – 7/10: Boisterous and captivating in his application against Spurs, Fred emerged as a vital contributor to United’s attacking transitions and solid defensive plays on Saturday. He was amongst the team’s best performers on the pitch. The Brazilian will be keen on building on this performance over the coming weeks.

Paul Pogba (CAM) – 4/10: Arguably, the team’s most under-par player on the evening, Pogba struggled to settle and deliver an impactful performance against Spurs. However, regarded as an important part of the squad, the Frenchman will be keen on finding his best form over the coming fixtures.

Marcus Rashford (RW) – 5/10: A relatively hard-working performance from Rashford saw the winger deliver a decent contribution on Saturday. He is unlikely to cement his place anytime soon. He will be looking to regain his confidence over the remainder of the campaign.

Jadon Sancho (LW) – 8/10: Sancho was exquisite and composed in possession. His technical ability and application ensured Manchester United remained a compelling force in attack for most of the game against Tottenham Hotspur. Having been amongst the team’s best players in recent weeks, the youngster is unlikely to be displaced from his starting spot anytime soon.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) – 10/10: The shining star on the evening, Ronaldo delivered a sparkling performance on Saturday. With a crucial Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid up next, the Portuguese will be keen on taking his momentum into Europe on Tuesday.

Substitutes

Anthony Elanga (LW) – 6/10: He was expected to start against Spurs. Still, Elanga delivered a decent cameo on Saturday evening. With some important fixtures scheduled over the remainder of the season, the youngster will be keen on delivering crucial contributions when necessary.
