4-3-3 With Cavani, Varane & Matic – Team News & Predicted Lineup | How United’s Starting XI Could Look Like Against Tottenham

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday as the Red Devils look to find a favourable result following a dreadful display in the Manchester derby last weekend. Having struggled for form amidst repeatedly failing to find consistent points in the race for top-four, Ralf Rangnick will look to capitalize on the home advantage with United hoping to redeem themselves over the remainder of the season.

An infuriating result against Manchester City saw United’s squad at the forefront of criticism last weekend. The Red Devils have taken only eight points from their last five Premier League outings.

They continue struggling to outrace their challengers for top-four, with the team looking seemingly unlikely to qualify for Europe next season. With only a few games in hand and players expected to pick up fewer injuries, United will be hoping for a change in their fortunes, starting this weekend.

With Luke Shaw unavailable, Alex Telles is likely to retain his spot at left-back on Saturday. Despite being passed fit for the derby last weekend, Scott McTominay is likely to miss out against Spurs owing to a muscle injury, although Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are expected to be included in the match-day squad tomorrow.

Goalkeeper

David De Gea (GK): A victim of United’s unreliable defensive line, De Gea will be keen on keeping a clean sheet on Saturday. Having been the team’s most consistent performer this season, the Spaniard will be hoping for a favourable result at Old Trafford this weekend.

Defenders

Diogo Dalot (RB): Having been thrust to the bench without much clarity in recent outings, Dalot is expected to return to the line-up on Saturday. Having delivered decent performances before losing his starting spot, the full-back will be keen on proving a point against Spurs.

Raphael Varane (RCB): Expected to retain his place in the Manchester United starting line-up against Tottenham, Varane’s presence is likely to boost United’s chances for a victory on Saturday. Having been amongst the team’s better players this campaign, the Frenchman will be keen on staying fit over the remainder of the season.

Harry Maguire (LCB): Although having been at fault for a majority of the goals conceded against City, Maguire is expected to keep his place in the line-up against Spurs. Having struggled to contribute on the pitch for large parts of the ongoing campaign, the Englishman will be looking to redeem himself over the coming weeks.

Alex Telles (LB): With Luke Shaw unavailable, Telles will be keen on cementing his spot in the line-up over the coming weeks. Having struggled for consistency, the Brazilian will be keen on finding his form over the remainder of the campaign.

Midfielders

Nemanja Matic (CDM): With Scott McTominay likely to miss out, Matic is expected to hold the midfield against Spurs on Saturday. Having been amongst the team’s most composed players in possession this season, the Serbian will be keen on finding a place in the starting line-up over the remainder of the campaign.

Paul Pogba (CM): Enduring a rough spell of form, Pogba continues struggling to deliver consistent performances. Having shown glimpses of his qualities following his return from injury, the Frenchman will be keen on contributing to the team’s prospects over the coming weeks.

Bruno Fernandes (CAM): Although amongst the team’s most frustrating players at the moment, Fernandes is capable of mobilising the squad in securing a top-four finish over the remainder of the season. However, having been amongst the most ill-disciplined player in the final third, the midfielder will be looking to work on his composure over the coming weeks.

Forwards

Anthony Elanga (RW): Arguably, one of only a handful of bright sparks in the current United starting XI, Elanga will be keen on cementing his spot in the line-up over the coming weeks. With Marcus Rashford unlikely to displace him, the youngster will look to improve his contributions moving forward.

Jadon Sancho (LW): Having been United’s best performer in recent weeks, Sancho will be keen on keeping up the momentum over the remainder of the season. Now a crucial part of the starting line-up, the youngster’s contributions will be vital to United’s prospects for top-four over the coming weeks.

Edinson Cavani (ST): With Cristiano Ronaldo’s availability uncertain against Tottenham, Cavani is likely to lead the line for Manchester United on Saturday. Having netted a goal against Spurs in their previous meeting, the Uruguayan will be keen on staying fit and contributing to the team’s prospects over the remainder of the season.
